Well long story short I went to look at the color I ordered while overseas white gold F350 SRW long bed and didn't care for the color. So I started looking and have always loved the drw which is what I had on my last truck. Thinking that we will get another fifth wheel when I return and knowing how heavy some of the hitch weights are the drw will be a better choice. I signed papers today on a 2017 F350 CC FX4 DRW in magnetic. My question is bellow:
What size tire can I fit under the front of the dually? I would assume the same size as a single rear wheel but could be wrong. I was looking at trying to fit a 285/75R17 which is 33.8" tall and 11.2" wide. I know I will need spacers in the rear which I will use 2". Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I did this to my 2008 f 350 drw also added 2" spacers they did stick out of rear fenders and I didn't like that. The reason I did it was trying to get better mpg out of my 6.4ltr 6spd manual with 4:10 gearing didn't work towing was 6 mpg towing 35ft 5 wheel stock or with tire change and also did full delete no difference traded it in after only 1 yr
When I bought my '16 F350 I changed out the 17" wheels/tires and installed 20" American Eagle wheels, 275-65-20 Michelin Defender tires which are 34" diam. and Bilstein 4600 shocks. Made a big difference in how the truck rode, we have a 34' 5th wheel and I just like having the bigger tires on the ground. I know the 285's you plan to use are little wider than mine (11.0") but I had plenty of room between the rears so no spacer was needed and they don't stick out like some trucks.
Since I ordered the truck with the high capacity trailer tow front end which came with 4.30 gears the bigger tires cuts the rpm down to about what 3.73 gears would be.....70 mph = 2,000 rpm. Love the truck and it pulls the 5th wheel effortlessly, good luck with your new rig.
I sent an email to Fred Goeske at wheeladapter.com to verify his wheel adapters will fit the new super duty rear end. I had them on my last dually and they are very well made. I'm pretty sure the rear wheels/tires will stick out past the fender well but don't think it will be more that about and 1" to an 1-1/2".
I'm debating if I made a wrong decision going with the 3.55 rear end and not opting for the 4.10. Adding the larger tires will make a difference pulling. I guess only time will tell.
Coming from a 2011 350 drw with 3.73 gearing and towing sometimes around 25,000 lbs about 4,000 lbs over the max i did notice that it would drop at least 2 or 3 gears to go up some hills and was struggling. So when I was ready to order a 2017 I figured I would just order the same 3.73 gearing as my 2011 and with the extra hp and tq it would pull just fine but then when the # all came out and it was 3.55 I thought it's going to tow about the same as my 2011 still towed well but I wanted more towing performance than that. I went with the 450 going to change the tires to 245's and that will bring the gearing close to 4.11 gearing of the 350 and I get the bonus of the wide trac front end.
I think if your going to tow somewhere around 20,000lbs the 3.55 will the best comprise between towing capacity and empty fuel economy. If you are towing around 20,000 lbs I think your not going to be happy with the bigger tires and 3.55.
I was going to order a 2017 F350 DRW with the 4.10 axle. I found one at a dealer with the 3.55 axle. I didn't want to wait for a build and since this is to only thing that would be different from the build i wanted, I decided it would work for us towing a 16K 5th wheel we have on order, so I went with the 3.55. From what I read on here and was under the impression, if you went with a taller wheel it would basically drop your 3.55 rear end to 3.31. I think you would loose to much. I may be wrong, so others could better advise you.
Ok.....you said "wheel adapters" when talking about Fred Goeske "to verify if his wheel adapters will fit" ..... wheel spacers and adapters are two different parts as you know.

Yes, sorry they are spacers. It all made since in my head.
Did get a call from my sales person that the dealership they were going to get the truck from sold it Saturday. They have located me another truck and will pick it up tomorrow. The new truck has 4.10 rear end instead of 3.55 which should be better. I'm a little worried about the "moon roof" and wasn't planning on getting it but it's on the truck. I worry about it leaking over time.

bronc71,
Would you mind expanding on your comments regarding your plans for your F450? I currently have a '17 F450 on order. I will be pulling about 17K - 18K fifth wheel. Can you please explain what wheels and tires you plan on moving to? What engine speed do you think you will end up with at highway speeds?
Thanks in advance for any info you care to provide.
