california emissions question

i hope this is the right place for this, if not please let me know where to post it.

i friend and i may be traveling to california for 4-5 months for work. we will be in 1 place the entire time. our vehicle(s) will remain tagged in our home state of kansas. if we go, we will for sure be taking my 96 f350 7.3 dually that has a 4" mbrp exhaust with a muffler. the kitty is missing (it had it when i bought it). we may also take his 87 Chebby Caprice with a big block, running true duals through glasspacks.

will we have trouble being in california for 5 months with vehicles that do not meet federal emissions, let alone CARB standards?
kansas obviously doesnt care, and we dont have smog checks out here, we are worried if we go out their will we get kicked out? do we have to stop at carb check points? can they enforce their laws on us since we meet ks requirements?

our vehicles are not ragged out, dented up, rust buckets. my obs constantly gets compliments . his car looks good from 50ft, if you get much closer you can tell it could need a paint job.

thanks gentlemen, i didn't know where else to ask, and i figured some of you boys could give us advice.

No. There aren't any carb check points. There are thousands of diesels that live in California with no emissions equipment and there is no emissions testing on diesels older than 1998.

The only issue that might happen is some overzealous cop will tell you if you're going to be living here to change your registration but if you're just visiting for work don't worry about anything.

Where in Cali are you going to be? That has a lot to do with the level of crazy you'll run into.

To sum that up

Southern California - You'll wish you were home.
Northern California - You'll feel at home.
