which sensor controls the idle at start up? truck started idling rough lately, also when i start when cold the truck doesn't idle high anymore (1200 rpm) it just starts & idles at regular speed of 700 rpm. (used to act kinda like an automatic choke, but not now.)
The (IAC) idle air control sensor controls the idle; it is connected to the IAC valve on the right side of the throttle body.
I think you can fix this by cleaning the throttle, and IAC valve with some carb cleaner.
1st take the throttle body off.
Take the IAC valve off.
Clean them separately and reinstall them
This should take care of the problem, if not you may need a new sensor.
Here is a picture of the IAC valve with the sensor attached.

The IAC IS the sole control for cold idling, but you don't have to take the throttle body off to take the IAC off. there's just two bolts to remove it. You won't tear the gasket when you remove it.
I've cleaned mine on both of my trucks numerous times, and they're always sooty. Get a little brush and clean it out really good, and use the brush and the cleaner to clean out the throttle body and butterflys well. It always helps a bit.
When you try to crank your motor, it will not fire right away. I usually floor the motor and crank and it will start...
thanks u guys. i cleaned IAC valve & throttle body. truck idles like it use to except for a jump in rpm at start up. it jumps to 1500 rpm when i first start it just for a second. then down to 1200 then the normal idle at 700/800. what causes the jump in rpm when i first start it ? i mean the jump to 1500 it always idled at 1200 when cold for a minute or two then down to 700/800. what cause the jump in rpm when i first start it ? thanks again. kelly
