How long should my glow plugs glow for?

I have a button set up for my glow plugs. They are all new motorcraft plugs. How long should I glow them for at a temp that's like 10-15 degrees outside without being plugged in? I know usually I do 10 seconds for like 25 degrees and it starts but sometimes don't like it cuz it runs on like half the cylinders for a few seconds. I just don't wanna burn them up. So im looking for recommendations on glow time

with manual switch i would go 10 seconds over 40 degrees, 15 seconds down to around 20 degrees, and 20 seconds under 20 degrees.

I figured it was probly something like that. I noticed before I had the button the controller would sometimes run it like 20 seconds wen it was like 35 degrees.right now my truck won't even start. It's 11 degrees and I did not plug in and the batteries just aren't holding up. they are both 550cca and the truck is supposed to have 850s. So u can imagine how slow it cranks right now. Literally like 4 slow cranks over and then it barely wants to turn it over at all. I need new ones bad. Anything 25 degrees ish and they start it just fine but it has been sitting since 6pm and it was 20 wen I parked it and it dropped to 9 over the night and it's now only like 12

ya usually my area gets single digits for an average temp in middle of winter. I deffinately need the correct batteries and I'll be ok I think. I almost always plug in at night now and have the timer set to turn it on a few hours before I start it in the morning but last night I didn't need my truck for today so I didn't care if I plugged it in. First winter with a diesel so let's see how much aggravation I get

Get the right batts in there! Costco is a great resource for them, especially if they poop out early. They don't give any grief about pro-rated discounts etc for failures like other places, and the price-vs-quality with them is very good.
That is, if you have a membership or access to one.

If it still has trouble after new batts, then you have a dirty/tired starter or cables to deal with.

I was gunna go to the part store in town I got a price before for the 850cca that it calls for. They wanted like 210 for both with my discount and that was for the mid grade battery.

that's a good deal for sure. Only thing is Costco for me is like 35 min away away and I don't have membership and the part store is legit 2 min away so travel expenses I'd be about the same cost in the end. But thanks for the info . I just started the truck 30 min ago for first time today and it's 28. I glowed it for 20 seconds and the batteries were kinda weak but it started. I'm gunna plug it in overnight cuz I gotta work in the morning. And unfortunately we r supposed to get like I inches of snow which isn't good cuz I need tires bad. Last week we got 2 inches and on flat ground my all terrains were just spinning and I wasn't moving. They are so expensive I just can't afford them right now. And I do not have a front drive shaft so I can't use 4x4. Iv tried all the junk yards in my area and nobody has one. Apparently there are 9 options for front drive shafts. And it's real pricey to have one made. About 300 I believe

Dunno if you've tried but put 1000lbs of sand bags in the back right over the axle or towards the tailgate and your snow traction will tripple vs not having it. And then you have sand to spread if you really get in a pickle.

I used to put blocks in the back of my old truck and it was ok. The sand is great idea tho if I do get in a pickle

IMHO: Tires are cheaper than an accident, injury, troubles, and a lawsuit.
