Hey all. So I'm stuck in the middle of the city right now. I have a 1997 7.3l f350 auto. Had my interview for the forces this morning. Went good. But got back to my truck and tried starting. Was a no go. Cranks fast but doesn't fire. Doesn't blow much white smoke out the tailpipe either. I tried to jump the glow plugs but it's like the post has no connection what so ever. So researching people say could be a bad wire to or from the pcm. I know my glow plug relay isn't working because it used to buzz but now it doesn't. Hoping it's not my pcm. I have a couple friends coming to help me load my truck on a trailer. But this is my only vehicle. Need to get it running fast. It was pretty cold today and someone said their diesel jelled up. So I open my fuel bowl up to check seemed fine. Anyways, truck turns over fine but won't fire wondering what I could swap that might help. I have a wrecked truck same year at home I can pull parts from but it's a manual thanks.
Yeah. It stays on like I forgot to plug it in so it's taking a bit longer to go off. And when it goes off it kind of flutters on and off really fast just once though.
Oh I see what you're saying, the gpr gets power. The red wire is hot all the time I can't get any power from that to the glow plugs. It's like the glow plug wires on the other big post of the gpr aren't connected to anything but I know they are. There isn't a fuse built into the harness for the glow plugs is there. I tried running a wire from gpr power post to the glow plug wire post and nothing happened.
It's a fusible link, there won't be an inline fuse per say. Double check the fuses in the box. Does the tach move while cranking? If no success try bypassing the current power supply by running a hot leg from the battery to the gpr then give it a crank. Don't leave it there just do the same thing as if you were jumping the gpr with a screwdriver
I tried that as well didn't do anything I go it started with ether to get it up on a trailer. Taking it to my friends workshop to pull the valve covers off. Make sure we connected the harnesses properly from changing them last weekend.
