Source for Oil-coolers?

I posted this under another topic, but I am a bit anxious to see if anyone can help.

Does anyone know where you can buy the ends of the oil cooler, known as headers?

I am having no luck finding them, I have a MAY 1984 6.9L diesel in a 1984 E-350 Van(motorhome) engine ser # 115666.

I have been to junkyards, and they have them for pickup trucks, but the oil cooler headers are different on the van, and I can't find them! Ford has discontinued them!

Mine are corroded and leaking, I may have to have them welded, does anyone know if they are aluminum, or some kind of pot-metal? They are not magnetic.

Thanks,
Al

I though they where copper and brass like a radiator. you might need new seals or maybe tighten them up

nogo,
Thanks, but I have them off, and they are either Aluminum or pot-metal. The have holes corroded completely through, so I need new ones, or to get them welded.

Hey Al,
First off I don't envy at all for what you are going through. I just went through it myself about three weeks ago. I found a junkyard here (San Antonio) that has them. That's the route I went. The headers are cast aluminum. The problem that I would have run into with just replacing the headers was replacing the O-rings if I had taken it all a part. Couldn't find the O-rings anywhere. So $50 bucks for the whole oil cooler (used), and slapped it on there. Works great. Another problem I had was finding the gaskets that go in between the block and the oil cooler. I took a chance (knock on wood) and just used that "Ultra Blue" RTV stuff. It's holding up fine. If you need a number to the junkyard where I got mine, just let me know. I'm sure you could pay for it over the phone, and if they won't ship it. I could go by and get it on it's way to ya. Hope I helped you out in some way. Good luck and Take care.

Kliphton,
Thanks, but if you look at the time I posted this, it was 8-26-03, I solved my problems last september. I also found junkyards, but unfortunately I have a 1984 E350, and the exhaust manifolds and oil cooler are different from the F-series, and very rare. I was about to give up, and try to fabricate new headers when I found a Ford dealer that gave me the IH part numbers for the headers. I went to the local IH truck dealer and ordered them, and they were right! The IH dealer could not look up the parts based on the application, but once I had the part numbers, they could get them for me. I was able to get the O-rings and gaskets at the Ford dealer with no problems, they also had the center portion of the oil cooler(which I didn't need), but I was stuck on the headers. Do you have a VAN, or Truck?
Thanks for the reply, If you need part numbers for any of the VAN parts, I can help, including O-rings and gaskets.
Al
