gas mileage

ok i put a new tranny in my truck(rebuilt the old one and put in shift kit and some extra clutches) but it still get 10MPG it is an 89 with a 302 and an AOD. any ideas? i cheked the EGR and it was not stoped up. snf it has new cap/rotor/plugs/wires maybe the O2 sensor? there is now check engine light either. my brother in-law has a 91 with a 351(ext. cab short bed 4x4) and his truck has 35" tires and 6"lift but his truck gets 12mpg and he drives it harder than i do mine.

mustang, thats what i'm thinking, i ran the truck really hard lastnight to see what woul happen, and the exhaust manifolds were glowin red(i think that means it is runnin lean??) the gasket in between the upper and lower plenium is cacked(causeing a high idle) i thin thi is screwing with the MAP sensor and the the computer makes it run rich/lean then the O2 sensor tells the computer that the motor is doing somethin else and causein the computer to get cofused(all guess work) guess i'll put a plenium gasket on it wed. and and O2 senso just for the hell of it. hopefully it'll get up to about 14-15

If you think that your mileage is going because of driveline slippage, the first thing to look at is the torque converter!

brett, i have a new toqure conerter in the truck as well. my brother-in-law told me that the plenium gasket could screw with the computer and might cause the bad gas milage.(he is a Volvo technician) and he has a ll the tools to change it and said he'd let me use them, i guess i'll do that wed. cause i'm outta school

My truck is getting about 10.5 in town. It is 4x4 for however much that matters. Im sure it accounts for a few MPG although I do have the manual and a regular cab. Now that the weather turned sour it seems like im getting less which is expected, but I havn't payed attention for a while exactly what it is. Let me know what you find out. I could certainly stand to gain a few MPG even if its only 2 or 3.
