I have a 07 6.0 powerstroke, I had 2 bad injectors so I replaced all of them with reman's. I had a problem with them coming loose. the first time this happened it hydrolocked the motor, number 8 cylinder. so I pulled all the injectors and replaced all the seals and washers and torqued them down a little more than spec like 27 lbs. it runs great and starts great even at 25 degrees but I noticed this morning that when starting it up after it sits (cold) it blows blueish smoke until late it warms up and I accelerate. is this normal? should I check fuel filters? oil in fuel? please help!!
Yes it is tuned sct running 50hp towing tune. yes exhaust smells like fuel. I was wondering if when it hydrolocked it pushed oil into my fuel filter or something. I don't know just frustrating, I really don't want to take injectors out again.
I got the injectors from a diesel mechanic at Michigan cat. his truck was totalled after 3000 miles so he was parting it out. it only does it when the motor is cold that's what's weird to me .
So condition of injectors is really unknown. It sounds like one has a leaking pintle.
I'd do a buzz test and see how they sound. Check for codes with a good quality scanner. It may show a contribution code for the bad injector. Ideally when it is cold I'd do a contribution test to see if a weak injector shows itself.
Personally I always recommend rebuilds from Ford Motorcraft. It's not worth playing with someone's used stuff. $203 a piece with a 2yr warranty and be done.
I forgot to mention that the second time the top of one injector came off but the threads in the injector were fine so I figured it didn't blow off and maybe the screws came loose? is that the Pintle that ur talking about ? my tuner has a code scanner and that's how I found that my injectors were bad to begin with. if 1 injector is stuck open would it still throw a code ?
It will not necessarily always throw a code but #1 in diagnostics is check for codes.
Now after that latest disclosure of one if them falling apart, I'd pull all the injectors and
A. use them as cores and replace them.
or, but not preferably,
B. have them all checked at a reputable shop. If you do this tell them that one fell apart and you'd like all of them to be checked for proper torque and flow & operation.
For my time and money I'd put Motorcraft injectors in it. You could be chasing issues with these old injectors for years. It's a gamble. That's my opinion.
Ok thank you I appreciate it. 1 more question it doesn't do it when it's warm so if 1 was sticking open when it's cold will that hurt anything short term?
Running down the road like that it is dumping raw fuel which is not good. In extreme cases it can torch the piston, resulting in melted holes or glands.
If it's only doing it until it hits 100 degrees oil temp it may be fine for a while but I'm not recommending to put it off.
Is there a way to flow test them without removing them? would a buzz test determine sticking open? and how do you do a buzz test? sorry for all the questions I'm literally freaking out haha!

No need to freak out, but as 87 says, Ford remans and be done with it. You won't regret Ford remans........anything else good luck, hope you enjoy dirty fingernails and the back valve cover bolts on a 6.0
He's done them, along with others here, they know and won't advise folks to spend $$$ where not needed.
Countless threads here about the "other guys injectors" or different brand.
I suspect a truck or two has been sold out of sheer frustration of the PO installing crap "remans", only to throw his hands up in the air.
I'm sure the only flow test would be with an expensive bench top unit of some kind that only a top notch shop may or may not have.
You can buzz test with something as simple as Forscan, downloaded for free to a laptop, and an ELM 327 adapter.

Does the oil smell like fuel? Is the oil level going up? This tells you that there is fuel leaking from the injector tip past the piston into the oil.

When you say top of one injector what are you revering to? The top to me me is the spool valve. Do you have a pic?
No pics. ya the spool valve attaches to the injector with 2 screws. no oil seems fine to me still full I changed it after replacing seals on all of them.
