I put an optima batt in the engine bay on the passenger side. the previous owner had it in the same location but the batt tray was just bolted to the wheel well panel. it shook all over and looked like it would fall off. so I fabbed up a really simple frame mount that connects strait down to the frame rail. super solid. and it lets you mount it higher up to give clearance for the engine and stuff. makes it easy to access for jump starts.

Thanks for the pic I came real close to this and it would have made my wife real mad I was going to drop the AC idea but she caught me by the neck and I put the AC in good job

Battery location

Goeff
I like what you have done - looks real good.

I would like to see photos of what Kevin has done with installing the battery in the passenger fender before I make my decision.

I think I will install my passenger inner fender so I can check how much room I have before I do anything.

I really like what you havedone.

Thanks

Dan

Be very careful with the clamps if you have to boost it there Geoff, looks great but that metal top could get exciting if the clamps slip

Hey Roy,
We've got a 1950 F1 with a 351W & A/C under the hood - not much room for much else. Our battery is behind the seat in the cab. It's an Optima -
it's a tight fit but it works in there. It's not ideal for jumping it, etc. but you can reach in there & do what needs to be done.

There are also marine variations of the same battery that come in pretty compact sizes.

Yes with AC and the pcm even running the AC hoses out the outside of the fenders won't work for me but I like what Geoff has.

I would suggest an alternative that I have seen some of the hotrodders use. They wire two (6-volt) batteries in series to get the desired 12 volts. It makes for a thinner installation and you get the benefits of a sealed battery with tons of power. I suggest the red top over the yellow because the cranking amps are higher. Yellow tops are better suited to charge and drain scenarios like trolling motors on your bass boat. Jag

Roy, Im not sure if your measurement question was directed to me or not, but my red top is 7" deep, 10" wide, and aprox 9" tall including posts.

I agree completely there. looks pretty but not very thoughtful in design. I have since fitted a rubber mat that slips over the battery stud before I put the clamp on to prevent it from arcing over.

I am going through this same decision on my 1949F1. I am either going to use a drop down box on the frame or in a diamond plate tool box in the bed. Since mine is going to be a driver and not a show truck the bed ideal seems to be the best place for me.

Nicely done Ernie! I also incorporated a battery switch and charging post. I did not consider the 2 6v in series battery outside the frame rail and inside the running board.
