Battery size and location

I put an optima batt in the engine bay on the passenger side. the previous owner had it in the same location but the batt tray was just bolted to the wheel well panel. it shook all over and looked like it would fall off. so I fabbed up a really simple frame mount that connects strait down to the frame rail. super solid. and it lets you mount it higher up to give clearance for the engine and stuff. makes it easy to access for jump starts.

Battery location

I like what you have done - looks real good.
I would like to see photos of what Kevin has done with installing the battery in the passenger fender before I make my decision.
I think I will install my passenger inner fender so I can check how much room I have before I do anything.
I really like what you havedone.
Thanks
Dan

Hey Roy,
We've got a 1950 F1 with a 351W & A/C under the hood - not much room for much else. Our battery is behind the seat in the cab. It's an Optima -
it's a tight fit but it works in there. It's not ideal for jumping it, etc. but you can reach in there & do what needs to be done.
There are also marine variations of the same battery that come in pretty compact sizes.

I would suggest an alternative that I have seen some of the hotrodders use. They wire two (6-volt) batteries in series to get the desired 12 volts. It makes for a thinner installation and you get the benefits of a sealed battery with tons of power. I suggest the red top over the yellow because the cranking amps are higher. Yellow tops are better suited to charge and drain scenarios like trolling motors on your bass boat. Jag

I agree completely there. looks pretty but not very thoughtful in design. I have since fitted a rubber mat that slips over the battery stud before I put the clamp on to prevent it from arcing over.
