Any recommendations for finding good quality leather seat covers for my 2000 X? Front seats are worn and need covered. Just bought it and am thrilled with it so far.
2000 Excursion, V10, 187,000k, all stock.... only till I get started...
I'll second the vote, with a big thumbs up. Great product/vendor. Fairly easy for DIY if you follow the video. Once they get a couple of weeks of heat, they look fantastic.
I just needed my front seats recovered. Did it in an afternoon, and they match the center/third rows as close as I can see.
If you DIY, get a better set of hog ring pliers, and a bag of extra rings. A better set of pliers is completely worth it. The extra rings may go in the garage(so what, they're small).
Assess whether you need new foam, or not. DS outboard can get crushed/compressed over time. If your seat heaters don't work, now you can repair/replace them.
They are the same as OEM. I think they are vinyl sides with leather center inserts. I just redid my driver's seat and it is spot on for fitment. Looks just like a brand new OEM driver's seat. As everyone has said: great product, great customer service, great videos. I had no problem getting the seat done in a day (I replaced the back pad, bottom pad, back cover, bottom cover, and armrest cover). It was a little easier for me during disassembly as I wasn't keeping either pad or cover so I didn't care about damaging them when I took the seat apart.
I don't know what it would cost to have an upholstery shop to do it but it is definitely cheaper than buying it from Ford. Speaking of Ford here's what I found out when embarking on my driver's seat endeavor:
1. Back pad - still in stock (IIRC the parts guy told me there were about 50 left)
2. Back cover - discontinued
3. Bottom pad - discontinued
4. Bottom cover - discontinued
5. Armrest pad - discontinued
6. Armrest cover - discontinued
Your choices are live with it, duct tape (did that for a year but gets annoying in shorts), generic seat covers, OEM match from The Seat Shop, or find an auto upholstery shop. Since I was only doing one seat I wanted an OEM match. The covers from The Seat Shop were a perfect match and (to me) were worth the money otherwise my OCD would have driven me crazy to see the driver's seat different than the others.
I just got some for our EX from the Seat Shop in texas. I havent mounted them yet but they look factory except they dont have "Limited" stitched into the back. I got the whole kit for both front seats and their package price was $700. I think it would have been $900 if i bought them separately.
I went to my upholstery guy first and he sent me there. Said he couldnt buy the leather as cheap as they can so id be better off going there

The Seat Shop will do that. It was a $50 option when I ordered my seat. You can get the insert (center section) perforated too if you so desire ($10).
