Slow Shifting

Whenever I put my Bronco into gear, both reverse and drive, it takes about a second before the tranny engages. Also, when I accelerate at certain speeds it sometimes shifts rather hard. Is this normal or is this something I should be worried about? The fluid level looks good on the disptick. It doesn't smell burnt or anything, but I am no expert. It's a 93 5.8l E40D. Thanks.

I would start by having the filter and fluid replaced in your tranny. then if that doesnt clear things up there is a solanoid pack on that model tranny that controls shifting, they go out a lot and can be purchased at most parts stores for like 30bucks i think. Im sure someone will correct me if i missed something

good luck

If I have a Haynes manual is changing the fluid and filter pretty straight forward or should I take it to someone to do? Any special tricks or tips I should use if I do it? Thanks.

changeing the fluid and filter is prety simple, my only tips are, be shure to have fluid in it before you crank it back up, caution: dont over fill it,, i like to coat the pan gasket with a thin layer of silicone, be shure to tighten the pan gaskets evenly all the way around, and be carefull not to over tighten them, as you'll squeez the pan gasket out and cause it to leak.
