I've got a Lariat with the Lariat value package(not Lariat ultimate) ordered.
I'd like to (add at a minimum) the ambient lighting in the foot wells of the front seats. All of the ambient lighting would be nice but probably costly and a lot of work.
I'm thinking the wiring is probably stubbed off in the dash and all I would have to do is just add the lights themselves.
Doubt anyone has tried it this early in the game, but I'm interested to hear from those in the know on this as I too have the Lariat Value package and would like the ambient lightning upgrade.
At this point it would be cheeper and better to go aftermarket with its own controller, I wouldn't bother trying to go stock, and the stock floor lights are weak anyways, I don't know where to get the kits in the states but I have seen kits at Canadian Tire, and possibly wallmart!
Sorry to sound dumb, but what is the ambient lighting and what does it come on?
Ok, so it looks like it comes on the ultimate packages from searching. So are there any other easter eggs that come with the Ultimate Package because I didn't notice that option on the ultimate package.

It's a package that gives you 7 light colors that you can change between. They shine in the drivers and passenger's foot wells...in all four door panels and there are two under the front seats that light up the floor for the back seat floor. Also...two cup holders in the console have lighted circles in the bottom. When you open any door on a crew cab...the light on that door automatically turns red. When you shut it...it goes back to your ambient light color you have selected. Red is one of the colors. Also..from the dash, you can set the brightness of the lights. As someone mentioned above...they are not very bright on the highest setting but they do look cool.

Kenv beat me to it.... With a picture!
It's a bunch of LED lights around the cab; 2 on each door, front cup holders and others I can't think of. The color is controlled in the setup screen of the Sync 3 unit where you can pick one of about 7 colors.
The doors automatically change to red when opened, I guess like a tail or brake light...
Ambient lights come standard on Platinum and King Ranch and are only in the Ultimate package for the Lariat. That's it.

Kenv...I noticed you have Ice Blue selected which matches the other backlighting in the vehicle. If you select something else, you'll notice the ambient lighting is *always* Ice Blue when you open a door and the vehicle is off. Once you start the engine, the lighting will switch to what you set for it.
The red lighting in the doors only occurs if the engine is running.
I think the lighting is actually really bright when you compare to other vehicles that have it. American auto makers tend to overdo features they copy. European vehicles are more subtle.
As for retrofitting, there are 14 separate LED bulbs that would need to be added. I'm not sure if the "holes" are already cut into place in the door pockets, etc so they could be fitted or new panels would be needed. If the wiring was already there...Sync could probably be reprogrammed via IDS or ForeScan. If it is not there...it would be a very expensive and difficult retrofit.
I keep mine on 'soft blue' which is OK. Lincoln offers a subtle LED white, which is far more upscale looking and less garish then the other color choices.
So reading up a bit more, it appears each LED is actually at least 3 different colored LEDs. An ECU controls which of the three LEDs are turned on. More than one LED can be turned on at a time, resulting in a blended color. Finally, brightness is not controlled by resistive dimming...but rather by the computer switching the LED on an off up to a hundred times per second to achieve a lower brightness (50% on / 50% off cycle). The human eye never perceives the light is being turned on and off.
So for the retrofitters, the question is whether or not there is an ECU at each LED location, or simply a harness controlling all LEDs from a central ECU.
I've been trying to find some soft red LED to put in mine. I just want them in the floor boards. But I'm not finding anything. Anyone know of anything?
