ok this is getting crazy i rebuilt the pumpkin, 2 posts down from here, installed pumpkin, installed pass side axle no problem.... dr. side bottoms out aprox. 1 inch before its bolted in with the 4 bolts snug axlewill not turn... both axles had new bearings installed i miced both bearings & retainers both axles are identicle in every way.
i tried rotating gears & reinstall even switched axles same same. originally when i pulled dr. side the race stayed in & i had to put a slice on it to remove it & I engraved "D" on it for the hell of it. BOTH AXLES are the same length i didnt take note of that b-4 being sent out as i marked 1.... WTH?
im thinking about the race that got stuck but why does it bind when the 4 bolts are snugged???? im really frustrated did i miss something to not allow the axle to go all the way in? thanx again
hey beast, morning to ya, no trac lok. i also turned the drive shaft & the pass side axle thinking it would slide in .i guess my focus is on the race i had to cut out on that side a flimsy puller wouldnt pull it im going to move the backing plate to the side & perhaps run a die grinder on the leading edge........im totally lost with this one.
Just out of curiosity, what is your third member's case code?
Outer axle berrins: Two types of berrins....a sealed (ball berrin type) berrin, inner diameter of 1.5312".......and a tapered berrin, inner diameter of 1.563".....and are not interchangeable.
Do you have the tapered or ball berrin type shaft?
31 spline axles, yes?
I'd hate to say to yank the 3rd member again and try the axles for fitment (spline line up) outside the case.....and while the chuck is out, to try and fit the axles in the tubes....just to see if they fit all the way. If they do, chances are good something's tweaked a bit.....AARRRGGGHHHH!
hey beast, i just got it in the new bearing for some reason was getting hung up on the backing plate hole i touched around the hole with a die grinder & pulled the axle in with the 4 bolts w/o resistance ....dang what a nail biter ...back out to install pass side & complete. mek code 28 spline non trac/loc.....ty so much ......again
