Auto Shutdown
Auto Shutdown
My user manual says "if your vehicle is equipped," but really doesn't tell you how to know.
But stuck in traffic today I was playing with all the settings, and I see that I do have a setting for 'Automatic Shutdown' with a 'checked' checkbox.
So I put it in park, set the emergency brake, and waited 5 minutes. Never got a warning, and it never shut down -- despite the fact that I think I'm following the directions correctly.
Anybody have an idea why my truck seems to say it has the feature, and it's enabled, yet I can't seem to make it work as designed?

I have this on my 2013, XLT.
15 minutes if you idle, 5 minutes if parking brake is set.
At 30 second, the truck chimes, and counts to zero seconds, then shut off the motor, and 60 seconds after that it turns off all electronics. You have to turn the key completed off to reset.
Note: during either times, if you touch the brake, acc pedal, etc it cancels the shut down.
The shut down I think I paid $250.00. Not sure on the 2017..

I think I read in the owners manual that on vehicles with remote start (not fleet timer on XL & XLT) if you don't get in and turn the ignition on it will kill the engine in 10 minutes. Is this possible what happened?
I hate this feature, I'm not sure if it's 15 or 30 mins but It dose shut down on you! It happens to me when I eat lunch in it or use the truck at night for extra lighting on the jobsite, there is a option to turn it off that doesn't work!
Mine has this. Platinum trim. Even when disabled in menu still get prompted after 30 minutes of idling.

I have the KR. First night I had it, sitting in son's driveway visiting and the 30 second warning came up to shut down. I didn't know it had the feature. I have not tried to turn the feature off and test it as at this point I'm fine with it on.
Glad to see the diesel shutdown subject come up as it's on my list of things to look into for my new 6.7.
I installed a shutdown device on my current truck, an '02 F350 7.3 soon after I took delivery of it new and had upgraded the turbine and added a simple chip tuner. The device shuts the truck down based on post-turbine exhaust temperature rather than on a set period of time.
Simply put when shutting down I place the truck in park, turn the ignition off, remove the key, get out, lock the doors and walk away. The truck continues to run until the down pipe temp reaches 300 degrees then the engine shuts off (doors locked the entire time).
I added a couple of modifications to the basic device. I added a defeat switch so I can take the device offline so the engine stops when the ignition is switched off regardless of exhaust temp. There are times I don't want the truck to continue running when I walk away. I also added a couple of led lights facing outwards high in the windows that are on whenever the device is active and the exhaust temp is above 300. That way when I lock and leave the truck I can see from a distance if it is still running.
For those unfamiliar the purpose in delayed shutdown is to allow the turbine to cool before stopping. This reduces deposits from building up within the turbine (known as coking) and theoretically extends turbine life.
I like this device because it shuts the engine down when the turbine cools rather than shutting it down after a set period of time. I my case the engine runs for less than a minute for around town driving (pyrometer reading <500) and up to 4 minutes when pulling off on a heavy upgrade tow (pyrometer in the 1000 range).
Diesel Manor has the best description of the device I could find online today...
ISSPRO TURBO TEMP MONITOR
Here is a cut and paste from their description..
ISSPRO TTM vs. Turbo Timers - The ISSPRO Turbo Temp Monitoris not a turbo timer. When activated, turbo timers will keep an engine running at a predetermined rate of time, usually an incorrect amount of time. Most Turbo Timers allow for the user to adjust the amount of time that they run, but most drivers don't know how long that time should be even if there is a Pyrometer gauge in the truck. Usually turbo timers allow for shut down times in 1 minute increments. This means 0, 1, 2, 3 minutes and so on. This does not allow for the flexibility required for most shutdown situations (less than 1 minute).
Anyone on here aware of one of these or something similar being used on a 6.7?
