Looking for recommendations on exhaust for my Super Crew 5.0. Would like a cat back that flows well, doesn't drone, and remains fairly quiet. I'm not opposed to adding a resonator or changing a muffler if I need to in order to keep the sound down...
I removed the factory muffler, tailpipe, and resonator and went with a FLowmaster Series 70, one in, two out, with 3" wide tips about a foot long. I like the low rumble, and really cant even hear it inside the truck unless it's under a load.
I'm super happy with my Aero 3030xl muffler in place of the stock unit. everything remained stock and it provided a little rumble with great sound daily driving.

I didn't know that the Aero was still around. I saw this advertised a long time ago and really liked it. Does it actually add a little power to your truck?
Y'all beat me on the videos, I need to do one from inside the cab, and I have no way of mounting a camera on the bed, or rear bumper to get that exhaust sound from the rear of the truck.
To the OP, would be helpful to advise whether u have a V8 or V6
Installed a complete Cat-Back, Legato Stainless Dual Exhaust System g
Took me nearly 2.5 hours, start to finish, in my driveway. She has a quiet rumble while idling, but damn u know there is a V8 under the hood after u put your foot on the throttle. It sounds great, a nice V8 rumble, with NO stupid cracking sounds & no drone while cruising

Did you buy a kit or just the muffler?
Any benefit of the 4" catback system? Or is the 3" enough?

Truthfully, I'd keep the 3" over the 4" for a little back flow..
I'm cheap, so I spring on something when I know it's a deal.
I straight traded my stock exhaust for the Flowmaster that I have, and the seller even delivered it to me in my driveway. (Come on Craigslist!)
What I have is the Series 70 muffler, with one inlet, two outlets, 3" pipe I believe. I need to measure the tips of the exhaust, they may even be 4 inch. I have about $75 in it at the muffler shop.
I like the sound, and get compliments almost daily about the trucks sound. I really need some better video of the sound from behind the back of the truck. And I don't think you'll beat the sound of the Flownaster Exhaust.

My goals were similar to yours when purchasing my aftermarket exhaust: couldn't drone and wanted it fairly quiet unless I got on it. I ended up with a Borla S-type and am very happy. Quite at idle and low revs and really wakes up when you dip into the throttle. No drone at all. Pricing is a bit on the high side at just shy of a grand, but the overall quality is worth it. Borla uses T304 stainless (vs. T409) and holds up better in the snow / salt. There are several videos on youtube of the S-type.

Just so you are not disappointed - there is really no cat-back system on the market that will achieve either of these. The OEM is about as free-flowing as you can get. The cats are really the most restrictive part of many modern exhaust systems.

Robb hit the whole nail on the head. I've been running this Borla SType for quite awhile, 2 years I think. Wasted mucho bucks on a much lesser system, just trying to eliminate drone, with no luck.
Once the Borla gets burned in, it's a nice sound, not noise.
Stock diameter is fine. Just have an exhaust shop swap out your muffler and save hundreds of dollars. You can usually get just the mufflers that come with these $1000 systems. for $100-$200 and most custom exhaust shops will swap them for around $60-$80.
And I've never felt any power difference or seen a mileage change on any vehicle I've opened the exhaust up on. Only a change in noise.
It would take better flowing exhaust components from the heads back to feel/see a difference in power/mileage.
I've cut open quite a few factory exhaust systems and there's usually not much room for flow improvement.
I'm with glockholiday ^^^ on this one. I about always change from stock exhaust. And for me, it's for the tone that I want from a V8 engine. Maybe a slight little something from performance will come from the exhaust change, but nothing drastic.
