Salvage Yard Therapy
Three bumps and three dents to choose from.... lo and behold one of bumps is a 67 that suffered fire damage but has an all metal grill with only a shallow dent on one of the headlight doors... the rest is straight as an arrow. I spent some time pirating those plastic screw inserts and usable screws... $18! Also found an OEM cargo net for my PT Cruiser for $5.
Btw, the young guy behind the counter was none the wiser that he could have charged me more... per turn signal assembly, per headlight bucket assembly, and the upper panel. C'est l'vie. Luckily he was just a cash register jockey... one chick a while ago would have nickel and dimed it... she wanted to charge me for the rubber brake hoses I had cut to remove the calipers! Idiot. I had to get out of line to remove them....
I left the gravel shield cuz it was bent and trapped by the 78/79 bumper installed on the 67. I prolly could have repaired it but I figured if I needed one just to buy one... now that I have access to my catalogs, a 67-69 is like $150 thru LMC Truck. Oh well.
.. I'll add this to the 70 and 73-77 shells I already have.

It's my fav yard because it's located outside the densely populated metro area so there are fewer "swingin' dicks" to compete with....!
In the early 2000s, I found the Daytona 31-spline Traction-Lok N-case 9-inch 3rd member that's currently under my truck. I gave $75.00 dollars for it. It would have easily been worth/sold for $350-$400 dollars, as-is. They didn't know what it was and I didn't tell them --again, THEIR responsibility to know.
A few months later, I was at a shop that specialized in 4WDs (mainly Ford 4WD Dentsides). He had an exact Daytona 3rd member like I had just bought at that time. When I asked how much he wanted for it, he told me $600 dollars. I told him I didn't need it that bad and I had just picked one up for $75. I had bought another N-case 3rd member just prior to this (at another wrecking yard) for $100 bucks.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
In my case, I figured the big fat "N" on the face of the 3rd members was the clue as to what they were. They either didn't notice them or, didn't know the significance as to their meaning. Either way, not my responsibility to educate them on what it is.
This Thanksgiving, I guess you can be thankful for cheap parts and wrecking yard personnel that doesn't know the average going market price for the things they're selling. More power to ya!

We got our steering column for Ol' Blue last month, out of the blue one on the end of the one aisle. Also robbed the ac unit out of it.

I almost go the bumper guards off the red one this time. They were there last time too, but I talked myself out of them again. They are pretty smashed up.
We are going to hit some of the yards in the Sacramento area tomorrow. Not looking for anything particular, just like to look and half price day is the best time to do that.
Well, except for bumper guards, I really want a set of those.

I got a pair of NOS guards from NBC_Steve as a "thank you" for helping swap out his engine. A coupla years ago I picked a straight and perfectly patina'ed painted front bumper off a 67 F250 to put on my 70 whose chrome bumper went on the 71. The bumper guards are a nice touch. For the rear, I wanna make some steps profiled to fit the contour bumper awaiting installation...
I wanna do this lowered dually.... the rear fenders are 56-66 Chevy stepside fenders. I measured them up at a car/truck show last year and the bump contour and overall height are perfect.
You lucky dog on the NOS bumper guards. I really want a set for mine, I don't really care if they are in perfect shape. I want to paint them to match the bumper anyway. The ones on that red truck were just to banged up to try to straighten. I may put a ISO ad on FB one day. My thing is I don't want to pay over Pic n pull prices for a set. LOL
I like the dually. That is pretty cool looking. Make sure you share pics if you do one!!
