I am sure that this topic has been discussed before, but I just wanted to make a suggestion. I have a really cheap CD player that came out of my sisters Toyota that blew up, and the 6x9's that came with it. I bought some $10 boxes from walmart, adn just sorta "wedged" them under the seat. I then put 2 self-taping screws from the underside of the truck to keep them in place. The seat stays all the way back because of my floor mounted shifter, so the boxes only stick out about an inch and a half, and it was easy to hide the wiring. I didnt feel like digging through the dash to replace the 30 year old speaker up there, and with the gas tank, and the fact that i didnt feel like cutting up my door panals, and didnt want one of those headliners with the speakers, I am very satisfied with my installation. Late floks!!
They are wedge shaped. Hang on, I will find a picture of some. http://store3.yimg.com/I/mobile-emotions_1751_7312575
Lay them flat, and the fit most of the way under my seat. I have a stock seat that has been reupholstered, BTW.
Here is the like to where I got the picture, and they are $14 per pair, quite a deal, I must say. And 6x9 speakers are VERY common and can be bought fairly cheap. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/mobile-e...9speakbox.html
I own a 1968 Ford truck and I too was having trouble with speaker placement. I had them in the door, under the arm rest but the seat muffled it down, so I went to a local shop and talked to a guy and had some 6.5" Eclipse Audio Speakers put in at the bottom of the door, towards the front.. Let me tell you, they sound SO much better, and you wont need your boxes. You might also want to look at replacing your stock 4x6 in the dash. I put two 3.5" there and again, so much better.
