Completely OT--The stories this kid will tell....

Even with nitrous 208 is a reach. I had a 289 with a 310 duration cam, solid lifters, 10.5 to 1 forged high rise pistons, ported and reburred intake and headers with a huge holly 4 barrel in an Austin Healy which is much lighter than a Mustang and the best it would do on a track was about 160. Bone stock would not get close.

Justboy- What is STOCK about a Hennessey Mustang? Per a review in 2012 ---According to Hennessey, the HPE650 Boss 302 upgrade package will cost $15,995. On top of the package, this price also covers professional installation, dyno tuning, serialized dash and engine plaques, and a 3 year / 36,000 mile warranty.
The added options that come with the package also carry individual price tags with the carbon fiber front racing splitter priced at $2,500, the Hennessey monoblock wheels going for $5,500, and the mounting kit for non-Laguna Seca models costing $750.
STOCK use to mean "as built from the FORD factory" Shelby's, Hennessey's or anyother secondary rebuilders are not stock.
A side note --In 64 I was in high school with Rick Lorenzon -Fred 's (FORD NASCAR driver)younger brother. Fred got him a new Mustang and Fred's machinic's retuned it in the family garage in Elmhurst IL. Rick took it to Oswego drag strip and set an 1/8 mile record that stood for a few years in a stock Mustang! The cars have always been a fun machine to drive but I will never believe a stock will do over 150 more or less 200.

That stupid kids rich family gets all of their vehicles serviced at the dealership where I work. That cars been in the Quicklube. Its stock, except for dangerously installed nitrous, so probly not 208 mph. That's a real busy road for a car chase where everybody commutes...Just luck that idiot didn't hurt anybody else.

Dave. I agree nothing at all. It was a ludicrous comment and I think really referred to the bottom end. The work was to the heads and a supercharger. But as 1PieceAtATime confirmed above the car has NOx and therefore will be normally aspirated I would think. No way it is getting close to 200 but the 5.0 V8 would be 155mph stock and maybe slightly higher unrestricted.

Not surprised at all. I was kind of wondering if somebody local would comment. Yeah I pretty much figured BS on the 208 mph from the beginning also. Wait and see if the kid and his family don't end up suing to police department due to a false/impossible radar gun reading and the subsequent "personal suffering" because the story went nationwide.

If he could get a pony car to 208 mph he would have shredded the tires unless they were speed rating "Z" . . . which are terribly expensive.
Here is a link that explains it:
Tire Speed Ratings
The whole thing sounds "fishy".

Back in my teen years (well before I knew about speed ratings on tires) I managed to get my mom's grocery getter up to 150MPH.
Mom's grocery getter was a 1966 Dodge Charger, 383 automatic. The speedo went to 150 which is a bad thing for young teen to see when he's driving around...lol. Man that car would run.
I was heading east out of Albuquerque one night on I-25 and decided to give it a go. The car hit 110 pretty fast and then steadily climbed to the 150. The old loose Mopar torsion spring front end was a bit spooky, every little bump felt like the front end would never come back down.
The car had bias ply tires. I'm lucky one or more didn't come apart. I only did it the one time, that was enough.
But 208 MPH in a stock Mustang.....I don't think so

Back in the mid 70's my brother was dragging another guy in the city of Lebanon, PA in his 68 Camaro with a 427 in it with 396 badging. A cop saw them. They both took off. My brother out ran the cops heading out of town. He whipped in behind a closed gas station and waited. He saw 3 or 4 cruisers go flying by. He waited some more and pulled out and a local yocal township cop who was trailing the other cops far behind saw him and pulled him over. He lost his license for a year.
He let me borrow it for the Jr/Sr prom. My date wasn't impressed but the senior guys were!
He still has the car.

My best friend's Dad had a late 60's Pontiac Bonneville that I'm pretty sure had a 389 in it. We took it out to I78 east of Somerville, NJ before the highway was open and tried to get it up to 100 mph. I don't recall if we made it but I do remember that after about 80 mph you weren't really steering the car, just aiming it down the road as straight as possible and hoping you didn't hit anything. The suspension in those big GM boats wasn't made for high speed maneuvering. It's only luck that we lived to tell about it.
