Electrical issue need help
Vanity mirrors, radio, window motors, all are out! So I started looking at the owners manual for my Ex in the tech folder found the
Radio 20amp fuse location #11 it's good
radio (start) 5 amp #32 good
power mirror/switches #13 good
Delayed accessory #42 good
Door window motors #601 not sure if this one is good or not it's a full metal casing so you can't see inside it.
I don't know where to go next! Hopefully with all the knowledge in this forum someone can lead me in the correct location!
As as far as I know the items listed are the only ones that are not working!
thanks in advance for any help!
Not sure what year you have, the fuse panel was reworked in 2002+.
On our 2002 I was also changing to LEDs and found that fuse #41 is not just Instrument cluster, Battery saver relay, but includes the glove box and vanity lights according to notes I added. Just noticed that #35 lists Instrument cluster and Battery saver relay again. This is in the Revised 2002 Wiring Diagrams books. I will have to go test these.

For example, the radio power is affected by #32, #35 and #41.
The vanity, glove box and instrument cluster #35 & #41.
This is all probably related to the Battery Saver relay power, but the logic is in the PCM and not detailed in the book.

My 2005 Expedition is blowing Fuse 24. I first thought it was the vanity lights or the homelink radio but that didn't check out. It will blow fuse after fuse.
Here is what I have found out. I put a current meter in circuit. When the vehicle is first turned on for about 30 seconds that circuit pulls 30 amps. Then it drops to just 7.5 milli amps.
It will run all day (after a warm up) without blowing the fuse but on cold starts it always pulls 30 for the firs half minute. Seems to me that something under the hood is being switched on for a short time during start up and that it is causing this circuit to be sent to ground. Like maybe turning on something that is only needed during start and that something is shorted to ground. ????
Dont need to start the car just turning it to the on position causes the fuse to blow.
Just search for 2005 Excursion Wiring Diagrams until a deal pops up.
There seems to be changes every year these days so you need to get a manual for your specific year.
There were a lot of changes for 2002 when the fuse panel was moved under the steering column.
Fuse 2.24 is Not Used in my 2002 Wiring Diagrams.

While trouble shooting i discovered that if you changed the fuse AFTER the truck was running the fuse would not blow and the vanity and homelink would work correctly. Further testing show that the circuit would pull over 30 amps through fuse 24 for about 30 seconds to a minute and then the current would drop to a few milliamps.
This leads me to believe that fuse 24 is also providing power to some circuit that is only used when starting/warming up the car.. And whatever that circuit is is shorted to ground.
I went back to the book and could not find a branch from fuse 24 that would account for this behavior but yet it happened every time during a cold start.
So this is CHEATING but my solution was to replace fuse with a mini circuit breaker of the same amperage.
Bussmann (BP/CB211-15-RP) 15 Amp Type-I ATM Mini Circuit Breaker. From amazon.
The breaker automatically resets itself if it trips. But it survives the current surge on cold start up and resets itself in time for me to close the garage door with the homelink by the time I reach the end of the driveway.
I've been running like this for over a week now and not issues noted.
It fits in the same slot as the original fuse 24. However it is taller and the box cover will not close completely.
This is the link for 2005 Expedition with fuse 24 from the tech folder: http://www.revbase.com/BBBMotor/Wd/D...dPdf?id=111213

I will check if for sure tomorrow and get back to you.
