next on my list is the fuel system rebuild/flush...
My research tells me to make sure to use the correct rebuild kit for my carb... makes sense. But I'm double checking to make sure there are no subtle differences in these models that I need to be aware of.
Big Orange Bible (BOB) says it should be the 4180c. The pictures look a lot like the one in my truck. But the markings on the carb itself don't confirm that... unless the is what I should find on a 4180c... that's where you guys come in...
Anyone positively identify this Carb? It's on a Calif vehicle. Duraspark II (blue connector) etc.
Here's the tag: (Motocraft E6PE AKA A 0J19)
and here's the carb:
Correct carb kit for this? the ones I've found are listed as "generic" so... just wanting to make sure. Seems to be suspiciously few options for this model...
Carburetor ID number: E6PE-AKA = Ford part number: E6PZ-9510-AK .. Holley 4V Carburetor (Motorcraft CA-3478).
E9PZ-9A586-E (replaced E5PZ-9A586-HA/Motorcraft CT-1404-C) .. Carburetor Kit (no Motorcraft part number) / Obsolete ~ Available NOS & from auto parts stores.
There are 5E9PZ-9A586-E kits & 3E5PZ-9A586-HA kits available NOS
If buying from an auto parts store, make sure to give them the carb ID number.
Most carb kits are generic to a point. You do need to make sure to get the correct kit, but you will find after you finish the rebuild, you will have lots of new parts in the kit you did not use, they are for other models. For instance make sure and try to save some of the old gaskets if you can, you can use them to choose which new one should go back in, they will give you several to choose from sometimes.
I see the 'carburetor numerical listing' in their tech library.
its a pdf and im on my phone, so i cant really look at it.
Iirc 4180's are located near the top of pages 15 & 16.
Kind of a pita because if you had the book the lines would read straight across both pages.
There is no reference to the Motorcraft number stamped on the tag, but you do see all the settings and jet numbers are blank where there are only orifices in the metering plate.

On my laptop I at site http://documents.holley.com/techlibr...al_listing.pdf
only goes up to page 14 and I still done see any 4180 models?
I still don't think it is that pages I have seen in the past so ???

Well, I have my tablet now.
looks like they fixed their fubar formatting and have the whole chart so you can read across.
Go to the top of page 7 and look for R80163, 64, 65 & 66
thx gents for helping sus this out.
I see references to the 4180 on the top of page 9 in Dave's link...
I'm a Carb newbie... so bare with me... if I have this right, the 4180 number is like the carb "chassis" number... the Rxxxxxx number is the "configuration" for the given chassis and the rest are the specs for the config... ? Then on top of that there's the Tag number... which somehow relates to mfg date and part number...
So according to the pdf, I'm looking at a "renew" kit 37-1536. Resident Part Number guru Bill (NumberDummy) points me to E9PZ-9A586-E... which I can find very little info on. Not even a cross ref.
Bill, you say there are some of these avail? Where?!?
I'm certainly making a mountain out of a anthill here, as I imagine the rebuild kits for these Calif carbs are probably a dime a dozen... but I'm a curious sort... the journey is everything

Do you really want an obsolete kit full of rubber O-rings and diaphragms that has been sitting on a shelf since Regan was president?
Would you drive on tires that old???
What was wrong or missing with the 3-1346 kit you used?

I agree. Get a newer kit that has pieces made of different rubber compounds that stand up to the ethanol in the fuel. A simple trip to the parts store with your tag and your truck year and model should get you the right kit.

I would order Holley kit 37-1536 thru say Summit Racing or Jeggs as I would think the turn over of that kit would be higher with them and you would be getting newer kits with hopefully new type gaskets.

thx again, folks... like I said... making a mountain from a mole hill...
Definitely want a fresher kit with new materials... no brainer.
Looks like the 1346 is a paired down version of the 1536. The confusion here was that there's no search result for List#50416 in Holley's tech doc or site. Probably due to the fact that the part was made for Motorcraft (?) ... and google results in a different kit on almost every site... hence my inane questions.
Nevertheless... got one ordered.
sorry this was more energy than was worth... thx for engaging in it. muchly appreciated.
