I am trying to change the plugs on my 96 explorer. I can't the wires off! I have changed plugs on a dozen different cars and trucks and never had this problem.
I even went so far as to buy one of those sparg plug wire removal tools to no avail. I really don't want to damage the wires.
Man, I just went through that this weekend. I tried everything I could think of and had to resort to cutting the boot off of the spark plug with a knife and then using vise grips to pull the connector off the end of the plug. It took me 6 hours to change all the plugs and lots of cussing.
This is the problem with "100000-mile" plugs. When I had this problem, I used aftermarket wires, and the thing ran like crap for quite a while. When I couldn't figure out why, I finally took it to a dealer for diagnosis. The first thing they asked is what wires do you have. They sold me Ford wires and plugs, and the thing ran great.
Just finished changing plugs took 30 mins. Here's how I did it.
1 twist all boots to loosen. The number 3 plug (rear right) is accessed easier if you undo the splash guards at the rear of the front wheel and go in that way.
You need to remember to put it back when you're done.
