DEFINITELY WORTH THE WAIT GUYS

Picked up truck this past week in Oklahoma and drove it back to California. 1450 miles in 18.5 hours yesterday, 16 mpg on the dot at 82mph (78avg).

I would like to say Thank You to all of you for the help with this truck from ordering to general knowledge about different topics on the 17 SD, to towing, etc. Your opinions & knowledge have been very helpful.

Truck has exceeded expectations thus far I must say. First impressions were def overwhelming with all the electronics as I came out of a 2002 7.3 Lariat. For those unfamiliar with the newer Ford trucks I will say give yourself quite a bit of time to familiarize yourself because it will take it. My old 02 seems archaic now. Those with newer trucks already I would imagine will be easier to figure out.

I do notice the slight lag or delay some have talked about in throttle response but not enough to whine about for me. Power is impressive, very impressive as compared to the 7.3 I had (programmed to 360hp/750 tq).

No real complaints yet except the lane keeping vibration in the steering wheel is annoying to me. I will turn that off. Cameras are nice but grainy IMO. I'm use to no camera but my wife's cars have been much clearer. I really didn't need the camera so this is not an issue for me but worth noting for those who depend on the cameras more. They are clear enough to assist in hooking up to a trailer which will come in handy esp the bumper pull & gooseneck points for me.

As some of you know I had a tough time deciding what 5th wheel hitch to go with or whether or not to convert it over to gooseneck. Mostly this was due to unfamiliarity with the newer trucks. I went with the Reese 27.5 hitch from Ford. I'm really happy with the ease of removal/installation. I had the old Pull-Rite Super Glide (auto slide) in the old truck which was a pain.

Ford all-weather floor mats I'm really happy with. Was very surprised by this! Ford has done an excellent job with these. I would recommend over current other options and are much cheaper. I had Husky in my 02 SD and Weather-Tech in all the wife's past cars x10 (she doesn't believe in buying tires for a car, she just rotates out w/a new car). Weather Tech and Husky both are designed with a lip that halfway covers your door sill plate on the 2017 SD & many others as well. Our old Yukon Denali I cut them because they covered half the "Denali" stainless logo. On this new Platinum truck the logo is illuminated and both Husky & Weather Tech cover roughly half of it. Really happy with the Ford mats.

Front axle hubs were in "auto" position on my truck upon initial inspection. Body lines/seems all line up with equal gaps. Drivers side daytime LED headlight strip was half not working but dealer took care of that quickly.

I will note that you guys who have lifted or leveled your truck MUST adjust your headlights down or you WILL BE or ARE blinding on coming traffic esp with the LED headlights. This is a huge deal and most overlook it because they are always driving the vehicle instead of approaching it. Some are saying "no they aren't that bad..." right now but have someone drive your truck and get in a smaller passenger car and drive towards one another and you will quickly realize the headlights on your truck are a hazard to others not being adjusted correctly after lifting/leveling. Do the right thing and adjust your lights down to not blind oncoming traffic.

The lighting inside and out is impressive. Headlights, tail lights, ambient lighting inside which can be changed to different colors all are new to me. Spotlights off mirrors & bed lights will come in handy for my uses.

Overall EXTREMELY happy with the truck!

For anyone in that region or willing to travel SEMINOLE FORD of Seminole, Ok has been amazing, professional, and very competitive in pricing. These guys and gals are 100% customer service all the way from start to finish! Have never had this level of service buying a vehicle ever. The owner of the dealer even offered to buy lunch at a local BBQ next time I'm there (was pressed for time so I had to take a rain check unfortunately). Hands down these guys are the best! Seminole Ford also has a very helpful internet sales team as well for those of you who are further from the dealership. PM me for #'s if needed. Other dealers should take notes!

Great write up. Bet you can't get the grin off. That's one thing that gm has over the ford. I love that their seat vibrates on the side of the lane your your encroaching. Was surprised to learn that the wheel vibrates.

Enjoy the truck and keep the pics coming

Congrats Jace....yeah...one thing I am disappointed with is the clarity of the cameras. NOT what I expected in 2017 on a truck like this. Grainy for sure.

Thanks to everyone!

Update: Loaded the family up for the first time......wife, 1 year old, and 3 year old. Couple more complaints. Car seats for both kids.......didn't see a center rear seat latch lock at all and the top latch lock connections don't make sense. The car seats have a long strap that normally go behind the seat over the top and latch but Ford put a tether style connection point that goes too far over the top of the seat so the car seat connections will not tighten up enough. It allows the top of the car seats to move forward in the event of an accident which I gotta figure out a fix for. The lower connections are great but not one in the center so both kids gotta be next to the door and almost impossible for an adult to sit in the back with them. My plan was for the youngest to be in the middle and have room for an adult on one side or the other if need be. I will look at it better tomorrow to figure something out.

Also, for the first time, I got out of the truck with the truck still running and the family inside to run inside a gas station. The double horn honk is annoying. Must get Forescan and disable that feature ASAP!

Ran the truck to 0 miles to empty for the first time and have yet been able to get to the 30 gallon fill up on the 34 gallon tank. Held 29.5 gallons after driving approx 3 miles on the highway at 75 mph. I'm wondering if that 34 gallon tank is 30 gallons of diesel with the other 4 being DEF? Anyone know the answer? Seems everyone is having the same issue, these trucks can't have a 4 gallon reserve after the "E" mark or can they?

the def tank I supposed to be 7.5 gallons now, from what my dealer told us. I was assuming it wasn't part of the fuel tank, and yes I know what they say about assuming.

Ok that makes sense but why leave so much fuel after the E mark? I guess if a guy was towing that would only be 40 miles give or take a few but I was hoping E would be 32-33 gallons to fill up. I need to order another RDS aux fuel tank & put in. I'm use to having 75-78 gallons (53 in the tank & 25 in my old 2002 SD) between fill ups which is nice! I'd like to learn more on the replacement tanks that go under the truck and hold more fuel such as Titan Tanks. Thinking of doing the delete to get rid of the DEF and EGR Cooler and will not need the 7 gallon DEF tank after that but don't know enough about this engine yet to be comfortable doing that just yet. We'll see down the road but I've got to get more available fuel between fill ups. I drive to many miles daily and sometimes out in BFE where there are no close fueling stations.

Thanks again for the info on the DEF tank!

Your truck has the 49 gallon tank with the longed correct? That would help out!

yes 48 I haven't run it empty enough to check the tank amount, ill try and hit the half mark and see if I can figure it out. I hope the def isnt part of the fuel tank, that would explain the difference in what we are seeing as to what ford says. The only thing I can say about the fuel amount after empty is to may protect the fuel pump and injectors on the diesel? So we don't actually run it out.

Could be but why advertise the 34 (or 48 in the LB) gallons if that's the case? I'd be ok w/the 30 available for use if Ford hadn't told me it had a 34 gallon tank. Not a huge deal I guess, we are in pretty good shape if that's the only thing worth complaining about.

I think the "reserve" fuel amount is now a common thing. In my current truck I am at zero miles to empty when there is still around 5 to 6 gallons left.

I have a 34 gal on my gasser and I managed to get 31.203 gals after going about 15 miles beyond the 0 til empty mark. This was also every last drop I could squeeze into the tank. The first time the pump shut off was at 28 gallons.
