So today I filled up my 2017 diesel F-250 crew cab short bed when it showed that I had 10 miles "Distance to Empty." I had driven 445 miles on that tank and then filled up completely with 27 gallons of diesel. With a 34 gallon tank, I still had 7 gallons of fuel. If I'm getting 16.5 MPG, I still had (16.5 x 7) 115 miles left.
Is it normal to have that much fuel still in the tank when the computer says otherwise?
Several have reported this same thing. Either Ford has designed in a huge reserve or the computer will adapt with more time. Time will tell but no one I've heard has been able to put in more than 27 or 28 gallons.
A 30,000 psi pump running dry of the very stuff it needs to lubricate itself? No thank you very much.
I do not want to test it either but the fuel system by nature does not just completely run out of fuel. There is a partial stream still coming though as the pump starts to "pump air" as we have called it and the rpm's start to climb even though there is very little power. I am pretty sure many trucks will run out of fuel but I don't imagine every fuel pump will be destroyed, but I may be wrong. I hope we hear from the first one to see what happens although I wish no harm to anyone's truck.
Edit: I wish Titan would get their act in gear. I wouldn't mind not getting 7 gallons out of a 62 gallon tank.
