So I'm trying to replace anything questionable that I find while the engine is out of my 94 f150, 302, AT. I noticed that the wire sticking out of this thing is frayed badly and that can't be good so I want to replace it. But I don't know what to call it.It is attached to the bracket holding the coil. Help!
its a radio noise suppressor, it really does NOTHING! with or without it you will se no big change, and if you changed your coil, it already is suppressed from the factory, they put these on incase the coil had a little internal flaw (nothing that would make it not work, but still cause a small extra arc somewhere) this would cover it and not give radio interference, but just a happy customer add on from ford. it was kind of a stupid idea, the internal whirring frequency from the capacitor canceled out the frequency of the arcing flaw.
What you might or might not hear on a radio, is one thing, but RF (radio frequency) noise to the computer near by is something else. Not "stupid" idea. Its called insurance.
Leave it alone, wrap in tape or P/U one in junk yard for a buck.
