2016 6.2- Factory oil fill

The factory 5-30 fill on a 16 6.2- is it synthetic? I'm coming up to my first oil change and need to add a little oil to bring it back up to the top before I spend all day Saturday on the highway and was just wondering what type of oil to buy...

thanks!

I've always been under the impression it comes with motorcraft semi-synthetic. If you are in the middle of the "safe" zone, I wouldn't worry about topping it off.

I just had my first service done at my Ford dealership and they use a synthetic blend as standard. If you want 100% synthetic you have to pay an upcharge.

Thanks for the heads up. I typically park the truck at about a 3 degree incline leaning about a degree to the passenger side- just the way the terrain is- So I don't normally check the oil (bad excuse I know) knowing I won't get an accurate reading. the truck was flat the other day so I checked it and I'm in the middle...but I feel better with it being at the top! do you know if it is a 1 quart dipstick...from the bottom to the top...

It doesn't matter, you can pretty much mix weights and base stock all you want inside the appropriate APIC rating, especially if it's just a half quart to top up. Grab a one quart bottle of whatever oil you're going to start using going forward, and add what it takes to get the level where you want it.

That being said, just because the oils mix doesn't make it right to switch viscosities. Wal Mart sells quarts of Motorcraft 5W30 here, so that would be my default option. I wouldn't change the 5W30 rating because there's no need to IMO, so if you were to get a bottle of something else that you'd rather use like Mobil 1 5W30, it won't hurt anything.

manual states.. between lower and upper marks..

7 quarts is normal change... upper mark might get you 7 and 1/2 quarts.

I upped my 14 6.2 from 5/20 to 5/30, I used mobil1 and a motorctaft FL820s.

No way was I paying Ford 75.00 for a synthetic oil change when I can do it myself for 45.00 and not waste an hour + at the dealer.
