Bestop Power Step Install

Thought I would share my power step install on my 1971 F250.

These are off a GMC truck, not sure of the year.

Front Bracket made from square tubing that I cut the the bottom out of. Just tried to use stuff I had on hand.

Rear Bracket is built in place and really is just a hanger with a brace to the frame.

The sheet metal screws were just temporary. I came back and welded the angle iron to the bed cross members.

The used steps did not come with the controller, so I went with KP Technologies.

I just stuffed the relays and controller inside the body between the door hinges.

Had to add a door pin switch as the OEM stuff would not work correctly with the KP Controller since the OEM are powered rather than just ground. I did wire the power step lights to the OEM door pin switch.

Very nice! Any more info on what truck they came from? Were they a factory option, or maybe an aftermarket thing? Any model name or numbers? That setup looks perfect on your truck. Good work with great results, thanks for sharing!!

Not 100%, but I'm fairly certain from an 08 GMC 1500 4 door truck. From looking at the online instructions at Bestop it looks the same as all the year models for the GMC and Chevy. Yes, I believe it was an aftermarket addon.

Nice job.

A couple of questions:

What is the overall length of the steps?

I can think of a couple of situations where I wouldn't want the steps to extend,. Does the controller provide for an override switch to disable the steps?

The length is 80 inches. The end caps can be removed and the steps cut down and the caps re installed.

The controller does not have a disable function, I used my power window circuit which did not get used in the build and you can just pull the fuse to disable.

Here are couple more pics.
