Which Catalytic Converter Has the Best Fit ('85 5.0)?

Hello,

I need a new converter for my '85 5.0 EFI and have read that one of the most popular brands, Magnaflow, doesn't fit very well. It's said to be too narrow in the width between the manifold flanges. With that in mind, has anyone used a DEC converter? I need one for use in California, and my options seem limited.

Thank you,

Rick

Do they make them with the original flanges? I thought they were all weld in universal type. Just so long as you have the certification papers with it. It's probably a muffler shop job unless you have a welder.

It would be difficult to replace both converters on these trucks with universal ones because the front converter is right where the pipes from the left and right banks come together (at the 'Y'). I'll try and post a picture of one when I can get back on a real computer. Can't figure out how to attach one from my phone...

If they have their pictures correct(doubtful sometimes) you should have the easier to deal with setup.

I would take it to a muffler shop and see what they say. I think it could still be done with universal convertors welded in place.
