Help! 2012 F150 6.2L V8 loud knocking noise,oil pressure light on,oil level normal...

I am at a loss and I know that loud knocking is not a good sign. Two days ago my truck's low oil pressure light started coming on and off, so I pulled over and immediately turned my truck off. I called a friend at a Ford dealership and he asked a mechanic what I should do. He said it could be something as simple as low oil, bad oil sending unit or maybe something serious. So, he said check my oil level if low top it off and see if that fixes the problem. It was low and I topped it off, but the light kept doing the same thing. Here's my dilemma; my truck wasn't making ANY noises (knocking, whining, etc...), 2 days later which was yesterday I was en route to get new oil/oil filter changed and 24 miles later I'm in a turning Lane and it dies! Will not start, but it tried, so I did not try anymore. I was able to get it into a parking lot and left it for about 4 hours and went to check on it and it started right up and that is when the knocking noise started. I turned it off and checked the oil and the level reads full....Can ANYONE PLEASE give me some idea of what the heck could be the problem? Grateful for any help!

Low oil pressure, and knocking. tells me its probably a bearing. anyway its going to have to be rebuilt or replaced.

Sorry if I sound ignorant, but this truck hasn't given me any problems since day one and then this happens...? It shows that it has oil in the pan and it's clean. Do you think it could be the oil pump?

If the oil pump failed, it would not have any oil pressure. the fact that its knocking tells me theres damage. you are going to have to have it diagnosed and find out why its knocking.

Engine is SHOT!!

You were right! Here is what my engine looks like! My engine is shot! I have attached the pictures, but what I do not understand is my truck has 117,000 miles on it and I've changed the oil on a regular basis and over half of those miles are highway miles. I haven't even had to change the brakes! The shop looked at them and said they are barely half worn. I guess I'm sharing this because I do not understand how this happens to my engine when I changed the engine about every 5500 miles!!

Holy crap! Are you the original owner? Which oil and filter were you using? Did you have someone change the oil for you, or did you do it yourself?

Looks like the oil was never changed.

Engine

I changed the oil every 5000-6000 miles and the last oil change was 2,812 miles ago! I am trying to figure out how this could happen and if there is ANY way I can somehow clean it out some and stop the knocking to maybe get rid of it.....I need some serious advice!

Coolant in the oil for a bunch of miles? I don't know of any way to clean it up short of disassembly.

This happened a while ago to an ecoboost.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-ecoboost.html

Not quite sure if the exact cause was determined, but it looks very much the same leading me to think this is a case of oil contamination.

Not sure if you can save this one or not.

If you do elect to replace the engine, it would be nice to know that it isn't going to happen to the new engine as well. That is to say, if it is a fuel problem, it would be nice to know that the problem is actually fixed.

Very rare indeed to see issues like this. It does make me think that periodic used oil analyses are worth the time and money.

Unfortunately the failure isn't the presence of the sludge. The sludge prevents oil from flowing to all the places it needs to go, which causes severe bearing damage, which makes the knocking noise. You can clean the sludge out, but the damage from lack of oil is still gonna be there.

Hate to say it, but you need another engine. I'd recommend Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market to source a used engine. Failures like these are extremely uncommon, so the odds of your replacement engine having similar issues is extremely low IMHO.

You never answered my question though...did you do the oil changes yourself, and which oil and filter were used? Very curious to see the response, you may help someone else avoid a similar failure.

Contamination and heat break oil into sludge. The OP says he kept up with the oil changes so if he's right, then contamination is all I can think of.
