I recently bought a "new to me" 2013 F150. While checking out things with my truck, I noticed the flex in the rear bumper. I had not realized Ford in their eminent wisdom, had gone cheap and made the bumper in 3 sections. WTF? ?
Anyway, since I had added these bumper steps on my 2004 F150, well before Chevy took my idea , I wanted to add them to this truck.
After checking out the bumper configuration, I decided to make a bracket that would bolt to the bumper and support the step plate at the end of the bumper.
Thanks for asking, no, I used a single grade 8 bolt to attach the "step" pad to the bracket I made. I never had any issues with catching anything on the step in this configuration on my 04 F150 FX4.
That's a nice idea. And even better that you made it so that it's removable. I know that here in Pa. you could fail the state safety inspection with that step in place. Also that's why I love my tailgate step. No need for something like this. Also FWIW the GM trucks also have a 3 piece rear bumper. And where as the Ford bumpers bolt together, the GM bumpers bolt and rivet together.

The 3-piece bumper design makes sense. If you ding or bend a corner, you don't have to replace the entire bumper, just the damaged section.
and that would be Ford's (and GM's) "infinite" wisdom...

That Tailgate step is something I'd really like to find on craigslist.

If and when you do I'd suggest that you jump on it. That thing is a real life saver when you have bad knees and a bad back. Thanks for that awesome invention and putting it into production.
