2001 or 2002 Excursion
Test drove a 2002 7.3 Diesel Excursion and was totally impressed. The pickup surprised me and the sound of the diesel was NICE....... I have the choice of several models to choose from. (2) 4X4 and (3) 2wd. Mileage is the biggest factor in the differences of the vehicles. 1 2001 has 53,000 miles and is really clean and runs nicely...... 2002 33,000 miles really clean and great throttle response. With all of them being 7.3 Litre diesels does the mileage really matter or is there anything in particular that I should be looking out for on these year models as potential problems?

I own a 2001, purchased new, has 53000 miles on it. Runs and operates great. Only problem was 1 month ago needed a new starter. I would feel fine taking my truck any where. As long as the previous owner maintained it you shold have no problems.

I agree with cliebold on this one. I bought mine new too, it has 60,000 miles on it. The only problem I ever had on it was the Glow Plug Relay. It went bad on me the day after I bought it. (It's a manmade vehicle after all.)Other than that, it runs great. My advice is to get the 2002, the engine has another 20 ft/ibs. of torque so that will make all the difference when it comes to mileage. It may not sound like much, but it would make a world of difference. Also, find a way to check the maintenance records and make sure it was well taken care of. It's all up to you though, what you want is what you shall have. Choose wisely.
