Pulled my batteries for service and decided to clean and paint the battery holders. What is that round thing under the battery holder on the driver's side with vacuum hose going to?
Also what is that round connector for? It was squashed under the holder.
Well if it's what I think it is the one on my truck had three wires going to it Opposite the vacuum hose. The previous owner cut the wires on mine. The switch is supposed to illuminate the brake light warning switch when you reach a low vacuum condition.
Now looking at the picture I see there is something on the vacuum sensor which might accept that connector. Will clean tomorrow and take a closer look at it.
Thanks folks.
i bet the vacuum pump was going bad and a previous owner unplugged the switch to turn the dash brake light off
So I removed old loom, wires looked okay. Cleaned both connectors, put new loom and connected to vacuum sensor.
Now I have brake light for a few sec after starting the motor. Guess this is normal?

Yup normal-- that tells you the sensor is working, and that your vac pump is working.
As the engine starts it hasn't pulled enough vacuum, so the light stays on for a bit. Then goes out as the vacuum is reached.
that also tells me you have a leak somewhere that is letting air into the vacuum system when the engine is shut off.
my 88 will hold vacuum for at least 6 months. not sure how long, but that is about as long as it has sat, and it still had vacuum in the system when started.

Brake vacuum booster? At least I know that the pump is okay.

Hey that's interesting. So when you first get into your pickup in the morning and press the pedal, it moves like normal or its hard? Cause if it still held normal vac it would depress like normal at least once, wouldn't it? My pedal is always stiff until the engine runs a few seconds.
