I have a F250 Platinum with 2.5" receiver. A friend of mine has a 2500 Denali and has a nearly identical setup as well.

Seems like a great new item for the aftermarket folks to come up with.

5/8. I just took a few out of the hardware store to find something that would work for now.

Do you run some ties thru the pins to keep them from unscrewing.

I had the exact same problem. I had to swap out the hooks on my trailer. I will take some pics the next time I head over to the trailer.

They will not loosen. We use them on our skidders at work.

One of my trailers had shorter chains than the others I haul so I went to the same setup RainDesert posted on my 2013 F250. I use the eye of the shackle to hook the breakaway to.

Dunno, I have run them for many many years, especially on my Jeeps and I have Always run a safety tie thru them, so I have never experienced whether or not they would come loose. I learned to use safety wire solutions back in the 60's and still do it till today.

RD, I just ordered some black powder-coated ones from Amazon. They have more.

Thanks for posting the size.

They probably will not loosen if tightened correctly but keep in mind the vibration on the highway is different than the pull with a skidder. High frequency vibrations can loosen the tightest of bolts. I will be replacing all my safety chain ends with clevis slip hooks large enough to engage both holes of the new configuration. Also want to try to utilize a safety latch as well. A few years ago I stopped for a trailer breakaway and one of the chains had unhitched itself. I don't know if it was improperly hooked or the shock caused it to jump but started my lethargic brain a'thinkin.

Many people don't use shackles properly. They shouldn't be tightened down hard. For proper maximum strength, they should be snug and absolutely wired down. As soon as they are tightened past snug, they will no longer handle the weight they were designed for.

Looks like the kid at the local McDonalds window with the big hoops in his ears! Hahahah

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Radius the holes a little with a diamond cutter or plasma? Not something you want to do with a new truck I guess but your "ear rings" are your only other choice I guess.

Also, if you stick with the method in your pic, be sure you don't have the cheap China made clevis. They are junk IMO.
