Advance the timing a few degrees and throw on some underdrive pullies.

No problem , yeah pullies make a noticable difference in power and they're cheap too . I just bought a K&N and cut the bottom off the air box to make my own air intake system.

There really is no limit to what you can do with these engines they respond pretty well to modifications.

if you off road don't try this but for a steet truck its pretty sweet. do the old ram air that hot rodders did. make an airbox and run some dryer vents to the grill making a hidin ram air set-up. it might be worth 19-15 hp fo about 5 hours work and under 50 bucks

The pulleys that they are refering to are underdrive pulleys. Basically they are oversized pulleys that go on all your engine accesories such as A/C, water pump, and alternator this causes these items to spin slower causing less parasitic drag on the motor thus giving it more power.

My underdrive pullies are considerably smaller than the factory ones. I bought an overdrive alt. pulley to help with charging at idle it was 1 3/4" vs 2 1/2" stock. Like mentioned in the previous post the pullies slow down the water pump, smog pump, power steering and the air conditioner reducing drag on the engine to increase horsepower.

For the money they are a good engine mod, easy to install and a decent power return .

k&n, true duals, good place to start, after the cold air and pulleys i would put on a hotter coil and open up those spark plugs! another big point is making sure the truck is up too snuff, new plugs, wires, rotor, cap, oil and filter, and make sure your running synthetic lube, i prefer the quaker state stuff in the clear bottles, while your at it put the synthetic stuff in your tranny and rearend, well, the trucks rearend.

DO changing the pullys affect the water pump and alt's performace? Does the water pump pump less water? Or is it like you rear end gear, they just have to work less? thanks.

actually they wont turn as much juice, but it should be fine if your charging system is up to snuff, and if your truck doesn't have cooling problems, you should be just fine

I've read and heard that throttle body spacers are just expensive paper weights . Get the pullies you won't be dissapointed, very easy to install.

Any of you familiar with underdrive pulleys for the 4.2L V6?
