4 -1/2" or 5-1/2" lug pattern?

Henry, my '51 F1 has 5-1/2" lug pattern. One of my friends had a '48 and he says it had 4-1/2" lug pattern. When I told the story of the IFS having 4-1/2" lug pattern and Henry being 5-1/2", my friends all say they never heard of that.

So did they change the pattern between '48 and '51?

Thanks
Mr. Ed

5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle: 1948/52 F1 / 1953/79 F100 / 1966/96 Bronco / 1975/96 F150.

Some 1980/83 F100's have 5 lug wheels on a 4.50" bolt circle, some have 5 lug wheels on a 5.50" bolt circle.

Sure enough. Kelsey Hayes and NWRA references show 1980 through 1985 2wd F-100s with power brakes had 15" x 6" JJ profile wheels with the 5 x 4 1/2" pattern. K-H #82552 / NWRA X-40273. Ford assigned it numerous different numbers for different applications. Radial tire approved. Used across the Ford, Merc, and Lincoln product lines. Stu

No F100's after 1983. No F100 4WD's after 1976.

Yeah, Bill, I've seen before where my books don't line up exactly with yours. And with that in mind when I posted I looked to see if this wheel was just catalogued for a couple years after production. But I didn't find that. So I wonder if the industry references might include Canadian, Mexican, or other export markets. Stu

Thanks for the replies. Since my buddy bought his truck done, it most likely had the front and rear changed which would explain why his pattern was 4-1/2".

Thanks!
Mr. Ed
