PSD exhaust installation.
Well, I did it! Went ahead and put the Banks 4" Monster exhaust on my PSD.
The instructions are OK, but leave out a few things.
If you want to keep your stock muffler and tail pipe in tact you will have to remove the right rear shock in order to weasle it out. I did not do this, but you can also drop the spare.
I tried not to do this, but you will have to cut the stock down pipe just ahead of the tranny x member for removal....I had to do it...maybe someone else had better luck, but I saw no other way.
Once the entire stock exhaust is out, follow Banks instructions, BUT remember to do this.....There is a heat shield that runs along the transmission.....you need to cut the bolts at the forwardmost mounting point of the shield...these are the ones that come in from the top of the bracket and actually hold the shield to the bracket. If you dont do this the new down pipe will tough them and will transmit noise and vibration through the floor board.....TRUST me on this. Loose fit everything from the down pipe back, align everything up and follow the Banks instructions if need be from there. One more thing....very important, make sure there is clearance between the new down pipe and the RIGHT rear cylinder head. Mine initially barely touched it and I had to losen everything and readjust foe clearance.
I went to NAPA and bought the flat style clamps. DO NOT use the U-Clamps supplied with the kit! Once you tightem them down, you can forget about any further adjustments since they crimp the pipe together when they are tightened. Keep in mind you will need one 3 1/2 " clamp to clamp the down pipe to the first 4" section all others can be 4". Just make sure you buy STAINLESS clamps so you get not rust! If I seem to have left anything out, please let me know.
BTW, I noticed that I lost some bottom end power with this new system, but the mid and top seem to be improved. Another thing I am trying ot get used to is this is a little noisier than I like. You get a slight droan at steady speeds, and a louder one on acceleration.......I was hoping for something a little quieter.....oh well!

If you would have removed the tranny crossmember you wouldn't have had to cut it.
