Ok this may be a silly question...but when adding the DEF do most of you use a funnel for filling it or is it easy enough to add straight from the bottle?

Wally SuperTech DEF in 2.5 gal jugs come with a long, flexible pour spout that also has a one-way air inlet. Works great. Not a drip in a jug.
Yep, most brands come with a spout. The Ford one is supposed to be the best as it will shut off the flow when full so no spills. I'm too cheap to pay for that so I just use the Supertech.

Ah cool...I was just thinking about how it would suck to waste the stuff by over filling it!
You can hear it getting near the top and stop before you over fill. If you miss it, you will loose a half ounce or something. I think in almost 5 years, I may have over filled twice...
Peak Blue from Home Depot and others has a long spout as well, with the one-way valve to break the vacuum. Usually $11.99 or so for 2.5 U.S. gals. Been running it since the first fill from the dealer ran out in my '15. Works fine. Any spillage (jug slipped once, it was windy...been dealing with that my whole life and the wind still got me LOL) just dries into a film on the driveway or whatever else it splashes on...then flakes and blows away.

I used to buy Ford DEF for that very reason. But, they discontinued using that spout almost 2 years ago so I now buy my DEF at a local farm & ranch store & save a couple of bucks per jug.

I cut the bottom off my Volkswagen AdBlue bottle and use it as a funnel with the built-in valve to prevent spilling. One note....make sure you add a piece of hose attached to the straw and looped down inside so you don't get sprayed by the straw!
I'm not sure what the need is for funnels or Ford spouts. Here's what is at Walmart and any parts store and works fine. I've never had drips or spills. The only problem is removing the spout without it flicking a few drops in your eyes or on your clothes.
Motorcraft still includes a spout with their DEF, just not the spout that has the vent hose inside the fill hose that is designed to not overfill the DEF tank. Although, they may still offer that spout as a stand alone purchase item - I haven't checked.
