Performance Question

I am looking into getting a 1975 Ford 19' Tioga RV with an inline 6 and auto trans, A/C on a !ton truck chassis. I got to drive it in the long drive way and that was all. No legal tags. It has 39K runs like a sewing machine.

Waht kind of performance can I expect? Like pulling a trailer, going up mountains, top speed on highway etc.

Thanks in advance.

Eric

Performance Question

It's gonna be a terd, especially on the highway. The 300 is a great engine, but everything has it's limitations.

Performance Question

Much as I hate to admit it, it's gonna be a pig in a vehicle that big. Especially towing up mountain roads. The 300 six makes good torque but at low rpms, so it's gonna slow puller a highway speeds.

Performance Question

Thanks for the input guys. The over all length of the RV is only 16 ft with a 3 ft luggage rack at the back the actually is part of the frame. Good for a generator.

I actually got to take it for a ride to my house that is up the mountain and about 15 miles from his house.

It actually rides better than my E150 High Top Conversion and pulls up the mountain just the same as the 302 in the van. So I think I will get it.
Only 39k and I can make the intake and carb changed suggetsd here on the board at a later date for more power.

Performance Question

I think with the smaller motorhome the 300 I6 will do the job, but slowly. I don't think it will pull a trailer except in the flatlands. Beef up the tranny with a shift kit for firmer shifts (and longer tranny life) and change the ATF frequently.

Performance Question

Even though the gears in the rearend are probably pretty low, you might concider changing them out for towing. A 16ft motor home probably will be okay, but the tranny upgrades are definately a good idea; maybe a bigger radiator too. 300 sixes don't like heat too much. I think it will be okay if you don't try anything too crazy. The 300 will run for a long time and handle a lot of abuse.
