Fuel Tank Crossflow

I have a 96 F-150 with dual tanks. I think I am experiencing the fuel crossflow problem as was mentioned in some earlier posts. I rotate from tank to tank near the 1/2 mark occasionally and have noticed that when the using the front tank, I end up with more in the rear tank than I started with. It has not overflowed from the filler neck because I allways run the rear tank to 1/2 before switching to the front. I think the recall from Ford for this applied to models up to 1993. I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else with a 94, 95, or 96 model?

Thanks!

Call the ford dealer and see if you can get some info about this recall problem.

Fuel Tank Crossflow

I had the same problem with my 1994 F150. Indeed the recall only covers up to 1993. I understand that the 1993 and earlier models have a valve where the front and rear tank feed and return lines meet and the recall replaces this valve. Also, the recall adds safety valves in other locations in case the problem returns so it wont over flow the tank.

However, the 1994 and newer models do not have this valve. The real problem is in the fule pump itself. I replaced my front pump with a new one from NAPA for $190 (AAA discount also). This does not replace the fule level sensor (sending unit). You will have to use your old sending unit.

This fixed my problem and also cured my acceleration hesitation as well as high angle stalling.

BTW, definitely pull your bed off to get to the tank instead of dropping the tank. You will have easy access to both tanks as well as your fuel lines for inspection.
