Slightly OT--1949 Shoeboxes being assembled.

They made it look so easy!!! Everything just fell into place. My favorite part is how quickly they slung the paint at them. LOL. They could paint an entire car in the time it takes me to paint my kid's jack-o-lantern. You guys will enjoy this.

Wouldn't you love to have a time machine, go back there, and hi-jack one of those delivery trucks. I agree. The woodie would be worth a fortune.

I'm gonna plead ignorance here. What is the machine doing to the tires near the end of the video?

I was wondering that too, could it have been a final check on balancing or checking alignment..??

Loved it, very interesting. When it came to the guy sitting on the trunk for the back glass, I thought about how if the did that on todays cars, they would dent the trunk lid. Thanks Doc.

The way the rollers bounce off the tires before settling on doesn't suggest much precision. It may be just a braking mechanism.

Thanks for sharing, Doc. The number of auto workers needed to build those beauties was interesting. Very little automation at the time, of course.

And very little safety equipment either. I can't imagine how many injuries they probably had.

I'd love to see a similar video of our trucks being assembled.

I was just going to write that, Doc.

I've never seen any, just a still shot of 53's rolling off the line. And I can't find it now. It was a red F-100 with a bigger truck behind it.

Cool video. They must not have been too concerned about scratching the paint the way they dropped the front sheet metal on there. I thought maybe the ramps on the car hauler could have been a foot or two longer too.

Here's another short video of factory workers flipping flatheads around like they were toys. Title says 1949 also.

Found it. Here it is:

Notice the argent painted hubcaps and the black, not stainless, gas cap.
