My truck will be born roughly 4 hours away....275 miles from it's destination. Will they still transport it by rail or will it just be loaded onto a car hauler for the short trip over? One would imagine they would not ship it all over the country to make the trip that can as easily made in a couple hours right down I-64? Obviously this will greatly affect the transport time.
And to think about it even more...what are the threshholds for the transport options?
Ford does truck convoys directly from KTP to their final destinations. Some of the trips were several hundred miles. From your description, it would make sense that your would be loaded onto a truck transport and when full will head to your dealer.
Check your window sticker towards the bottom. It will either say rail or convoy, should give you an idea. But just because your dealership is close and it goes by truck does not mean it will come any quicker. Mine has sat at the Kentucky plant for the past two weeks and will not be picked up for transport until maybe next week. God knows how long they will take to get it to the dealer.
Quite often trucks are delayed to certain areas waiting for enough other vehicles to fill the transport before it leaves. One empty berth on the truck is a loss in revenue to the transport company and they really have ultimate control of the deliveries once the vehicles are released to them. And then there are the ones which get boxed in by other vehicles at the yard or railhead which means another wait until the path is cleared.
Mine is at the yard on the rail transport. Who knows how long it will take for it to be unloaded. However, they have 72 hours from arrival to deliver to the dealership.
Mine says convoy and I wouldnt mind if they did put some miles on it, saves me some trouble in getting the first 1000 on it before I can tow. I'm planning a road trip for no other purpose then to rack up some break in miles so I can tow sooner. But mostly I see vehicles being delivered to my dealer by truck.

Where's the 72 hours come from? That's from the time it lands at the intermodal yard to get it on a truck to the dealer? Haven't heard that.
