Regen messages?

For those of you who have had their trucks enough miles...do you still receive an amber "Exhaust filter cleaning" warning when a regen starts? I have 500 miles on my truck and have yet to see a warning. The owner's manual states you will see both the start and finished messages. I also could swear I've smelled the familiar cooking exhaust / regen smell...but no messages.

I have 400 miles on mine and have not seen a regen message. When I got out of it yesterday morning it sure smelled like it had been in a regen though.

It will only show the message for a second or two. It is very easy to miss.

Yep - I've had a couple of 6.7's from the previous gen. I almost never missed the warning.

My question is whether anyone has seen a warning in the new trucks?

Not an answer to your question - but....
Have you got a ScanGuage-II that you can hook up?
I had one on my 2015 and it would tell me the miles since last regen as well as regen on or off...

Troverman...this was brought up a while back...and Rodney asked the same question...."It's so fast that maybe people are missing the message when it pops up". I'm the same as you....I almost NEVER missed that message popping up in my 2011...EVER. I always saw the Cleaning filter message. I still have not seen where anyone with a 2017 has said they have actually seen the message on the dash.

2700 Miles and nothing. DEF tank is at about 60%. If it shows...it must be really quick.

I had a regen today. It was easy to tell the truck was in regen mode by the sharp nose dive the mpg's took for about 20 miles. I never saw a message or light flash showing that it had started or finished. I could have missed the start message, but I was watching pretty closely for a finish message and never saw it. It was also pretty easy to tell when it had finished as the instantaneous mpg was notably higher again.

I'll hook up my blue tooth OBDII adapter and monitor with Torque Pro when the truck arrives in two weeks. I assume that the PIDs are still the same as the 2011. I miss the message all the time now since I stopped looking for it a few years ago but in the beginning, I always had one eye on the road and the other on the dash. Never missed it then.

Yeah, I still do the same thing. I've probably missed < 5 regen notices in the last 6 years. Gotta keep up that cross check!

Dealer told me expect it to regenerate an average of once a tank of fuel. Do you think that is accurate? My 08 can regenerate several times over the course of a long trip. 4 hours.

Totally depends. If you're running lots of short trips where the truck never heats up, the regens can be every 100 miles. It will feel like it's always going off and the mileage will be terrible. But get out on the road with a trailer and the regen will trigger based on miles alone. Your DPF can be perfectly clean and the truck will fire off a very short regen every 500 miles.

Are you speaking of the regens solely on the 2017?
On my 2015 - I never had a regen shorter than 15 miles at highway speeds. Even when towing heavy (18k+), it would regen at least every 250 miles. Many times it would regen around 150-180 miles.. I did very little stop-and-go driving... The truck never used oil, but it did make 1/2 qt between the two oil and filter changes I gave it...
After I had the TSB for Regen Shuddering applied, the regen process changed the truck a bit. Better fuel economy, no more shuddering at lower speeds, regens less frequent.
