Michelin:
These are available in 295/70R 18 with a single load of 4080 lbs.
The 295 /65R 20 have the same load. That is 600 pounds more per tire than the standard 275/65R 18 at single load 3415 lbs. They are only available in the Defender LT MS which has been a reliable tread pattern with long wear. However Michelin has reduced the treadwear warranty down to 50K miles from 70K miles in the past. I wonder if it is because they don't wear that long and they had to provide too many warranty claims or did they change the compound so they wear faster?

Tire trivia:

Cross Section Width in millimeter, widest section of tire i.e. 295
Aspect Ratio is percentage of sidewall height to cross section width i.e 65

LT 295/65 R20

So this is a Light Truck Radial tire and is 295 millimeters wide at widest point (side wall to side wall, not tread width) and the sidewall is 65% as tall as the tire is wide.

To calculate the approximate height multiply cross section times aspect ratio times 2 (because you have to add the side wall twice for the height) and then convert that to inches (25.4 mm to an inch) and then add in the rim size.

(295 * .65 * 2 ) / 25.4 + 20 = 35.01 inches tall

Not all brands of tires will physically measure the same even if the size is the same, but they will be close. It's like not all size 10 shoes fit you the same.

Stopped at a Ford store yesterday and looked at an F350 Lariat with stock tires and it looked odd. It came through with Continentals which I dislike anyway but the tires in spite of the same size as the Michelins next to it looked small. I was in a hurry so I did not tape them but next time over I will check. I called my dealer later to start the process of being ready to swap out the tires it comes with for an upgrade. I really do not want Continentals, if that is what comes through.

Are the factory michelin at/2's any count for light mud and what not? Ive heard that the original at's werent all that great, but the at/2's are better. Im not the type that goes looking for mud but would like to be able to get through the light stuff when i have to.

Thanks for the pictures Bat. The 295s match up well with the 20s. Nice proportions of tires and wheel.

Speedometer Correctoin

You guys that are installing taller tires....are you just living with the speedometer or are you using something aftermarket to correct the speedometer?

My guess is Ford will only correct to the Factory tire sizes?

How much did they credit you for the factory michelins that you took off toward the new ones? The tires i want are probably cheaper than the factory tires, so i dont want to trade them along with more money, just to go with a cheaper tire. If thats the case, i'll just stick with the oems.
