My truck is completely stock and has 14,000 miles on it. We bought it back in March 2016 and I have not seen much change in fuel mileage. First what mileage do you guys get? Do you ever reach a point where your fuel mileage started to improve? Right now I get right at 15 mpg and my truck is an F250 4x4.
I have a dually and only saw about a half mile difference in all the miles I have. Of course it's only 22,000 now The 250-350 SRW get better than my 13.5-15 depending on how I drive. Some are getting 16 constantly.
I just keep thinking I should start seeing some improvement in mileage while empty.
That's not going to happen, it is what it is, at least until you load it up and make it work. At which point you will see a change in your mileage.....as it drops.
Mine is a 2013 F350 DRW 4X4 3:73 gears, if my average were to ever hold steady at 13.6 or higher I would get all kinds of excited.
with today's tech, what you have is pretty much what you get.
If empty I can get about 17 hwy. About 12 city.
I agree, the idea that mileage improves as the engine wears in is just not going to happen. Yes, friction will be reduced a bit during the first few miles, but that's about it. According to my LOM, the first tankful was the very best mileage I got.
I have a Dually with 4.30 gears. In 35,070 miles I have bought 2,941.55 gallons of fuel. That averages out to 11.92 miles per gallon. My worst tank was 7.06 pulling a 19,000 pound toy hauler 75 MPH into a 30 MPH head wind. My everyday driving average is 13.2 mpg.
My previous truck, also a dually, had 3.73 gears. In 76,944 miles it used 5,432.86 gallons of fuel. Averages out to 14.16 mpg. The worst tank was 8.59 and the best was 18.49 mpg. I remember the 18.49 tank. I fueled up at an exit on the interstate, got on and drove 63 mph until the tank was down to an eighth. It was an experiment on mostly flat ground and not a normal drive.
As the saying goes, your mileage may vary.
For what it is worth I get 16 to 18 mpg empty, and 10 to 12 mpg hauling my fiver. (about 14,500 Lbs. loaded)
2016 F-350 Crew Cab Short Box with 6.7 Liter, FX4 Package, and 3.55 rear axle.
Just got back from a trip with my Wife & Mother (about 700 miles Round Trip) and averaged 17.7 mpg. (Included 2 Regen cycles)
