Ive been looking for lift kits for my truck but cant decide what to get. It is going to be for my 1979 Ford F.250 4x4 Supercab that I am swaping a Cummins into. From what I have figured from reading on the internet my new Cummins/drivetrain will weigh 785 more pounds. Skyjacker seems to be a good deal but has mixed reviews and Im not sure if I need to order custom springs for my conversion. I've also read Atlas makes a good lift kit and can be custom made but gets pricy.
So who should I go with for the best ride? Is there anyone else out there better?
Well I figured I would post an update on here.I did a lot of searching in my area and found 2 spring shops that build spring packs. They both wouldn't touch building the lift springs with a ten foot pole though. They were both capable of building them and the one even built them in the past but said they could no longer make them due to insurance liabilities. Kind of a shame you have to be so paranoid about being sued by people anymore.
So I called Skyjacker and told them about my Cummins prediciment. They don't make custom spring rate kits but do make add a leaf packs for snow plow trucks, etc. I ended up ordering their lift kit with the add a leafs from 4 Wheel Online for $1300.
I purchased the 4" Skyjacker softride for my 79 F350 4x4 SC. While it rides much better now than the stock ride, it still rides like a truck! I have a few buddy's that have done a cummins swap in their 78/79 trucks and they all used the superduty springs for the rear and atlas custom springs for the front and they all say their trucks ride amazing now!?
Sounds like you are on the right track with what you have bought!!
I'm doing the same thing..78 f250 4x4 SC Cummins. I just picked up some stock '99 SD "X" code front springs. Everything I've read says they'll give a ~2" lift, more like a level kit, ride better and have weight capacity. I'll eventually be hanging a plow and winch/bumper up front, otherwise I would have got "V" codes. I'm building a tow rig so I want to stay under 4" lift.
I'm doing a custom rear suspension, dodge axle, probably superduty springs, mix and match ford/ dodge frame hangers. Once I got it setup on stock springs/ blocks, I'll end up getting a custom spring through someone like Alcan or Deaver to get a progressive rate and eliminate the block.

I'm thinking of using SD rears, I've never seen a writeup with someone putting them in a dent, I've only seen people using 63" chevy springs. I assuming it requires moving hangers? I'm also looking at late model dodge springs at 69", if I'm remembering correctly. I want more spring length for a better ride, but still need capacity.

The rear SD axle shouldn't be too bad to bolt in. The front will be a total PITA though. You'll have to make outboard springs or else modify for coil-overs.
I thought about doing that too on my truck for the better ride quality of coils.

I wasn't talking axles, just the springs. I'm running the 78 hp60 front and a dodge 95 srw D80 for axles. Maybe down the road I'll toss radius arms and coilovers at the front, but I'll keep my axle.
