Where would the soot come from? Is it normal?
Anyone ever clean their intercooler? don't know if it is in there too but chances are with the tube that nasty.....
I plan on installing the H&S kit for insurance and will also be installing the No Limit ccv mod to take care of the oily build up you're seeing. Have done a ccv mode on my last two diesels. No more oily mess.

The crank case vent in stock form is recirculated back into the intake which causes the oily mess inside the CAC tube. The CCV mod involves redirecting the ccv either into a catch can or into the atmosphere

Im not a big fan of the CCV reroute/mod. The oil separator works rather well and directs captured oil back into the engine and passes gaseous oil into the intake which is calibrated to provide ~4" H2O of vacuum which evacuates blow by gasses, oil vapors etc. W/o a vacuum, fresh air will not be introduced through the crankcase ventilation filter with a potential of unfiltered air, path of least resistance, to enter through the CCV reroute hose introducing contaminates into the oil system and possibly causing an over pressurization state. My two cents.

Does that new one require a tuner? I dont see the port for relocating the sensor...

EDIT: Nevermind, i see the hole in the billet adapter. It's curious though that it says "CA Residents: Not legal for sale or use in California on pollution controlled motor vehicles." I don't understand that statement if none of the controls are being overridden or removed..

Interesting. So, they adapted the 2017+ kit for the 16's and dropped the price accordingly. I like it.

Dave, the sensor port is likely just facing the other direction. They wanted to get the H&S logo in the pic.

That kit does not replace the butterfly valve so it should be OK for the republic of california. If you have deleted you want the kit that replaces the butterfly valve.

Not without an EO number. Every aftermarket part, even if it changes nothing, needs a California EO number to be legal. Crazy nuts out there...

Really like the concept of the new kit but I wonder what the real world long term results are with a full scilicone hose vs SS pipe?

I really don't see an issue as the Cummins in our Freightliners goes 250k easy before they ever start showing signs of needing replacing. I think it will be fine.

That sounds great, I hadn’t thought about HD trucks using similar hoses, guess that’s about as real world as it gets.

I installed the H&S Silicone CAC replacement kit and it seems like a really well made kit. Instructions were very thorough and clear. The kit came with a new o-ring, but you're instructed to re-use the OEM clip which was not a problem. pretty easy install.
Other have remarked on the sludge coating the old CAC, but I actually had oil settled in the bottom of the tube and intercooler.
