My Dad's '11 Lariat has now destroyed one set of hubs due to a failed vac line and he had another fail today. I'm not sure if it damaged this set of hubs or not. Anyone have issues with the vac lines that engage the 4x4? He tows a lot but his off-roading habits are pulling the trailer through the yard so I don't think it's from abuse.
On my 2012 f150 I had 2 left and 1 right 4wd actuators changed under warrantee. I asked each time to see the parts and there was a plastic ring that broke. Don't know if it kept them from working or staying constantly locked in, I had them done due to the low growl at slow speed. When it was switched to 4hi the noise would go away.
You may want to look into this further. I remember reading about a small vacuum check valve that can cause intermittent vacuum problems that usually get miss diagnosed.

i'm not sure if the vacuum system is the same on a 2011 as it is on my 2010 or not but hopefully this helps.
If it is an intermittent problem you can disconnect the vacuum line from the solenoid that goes to your wheels (IWE's) and it will engage the wheels tot he cv shafts and prevent further damage to the IWE's. There should be no issues driving this way until you fix the issue other that a small drop in fuel economy( I didn't really notice a drop at all so hopefully you won't wither). your front cv shafts will be rotating with your wheels but as long as you are in 2 wheel drive your transfer case should be disengaged.
