Winter fuel must be gone here, today I pulled a solid 17.6 on my normal flat hwy run at 55-60. If I don't tow this tank, I should get back close to 13 for my entire tank average of 50/50 driving.

That's impressive rain, that's got to be a new best for a 4x4, and your turning 35's. The improved low end torque is shining.

I really want to just take a long enough drive at 55-65 on some back road/hwys to see what I can hand calc for an entire tank. I just went past 10k on the OD, maybe she's loosening up a little

Just reading through here... Some of you guys towing under or around 12k might be better suited looking at the F150 Ecoboost HD. Unless you are pulling a GN or 5th wheel.

My F150 3.5 eco has more power than my 6.2, but can't pull my gooseneck. I have a set of light duty 33" Toyo AT on the factory 20s and it looks great without a leveling kit and rides like I am on a cloud. Really good mpg.

You would just need to be aware overall the wear and tear factor of the lighter duty truck.

Can you even get the F150 HD? I have never seen one, and do they have a 7 lug axle?

Several interesting HD packages are available on the F150:

Not a 7 lug but has a heavier duty differential and springs.

Obviously not as heavy duty as a Super Duty but probably would work for a lot of people complaining about mpg and power. Can even get the 6.5 ft bed and crew cab.

I had thought I read about a 7 lug axle.... Anyway, I like the idea of the HD F1, I just have yet to see one. I have not been in the F150 forums lately, but it seemed last time I checked you still couldn't order one?

While I doubt I'd be able to make the F-150 work, I'd like to know more and definitely see the order guide. It appears the F-150 Build & Price is as inaccurate as the Super Duty one.

On second thought, don't know if I'm up for the EB headaches either.

You can download the 2017 F150 brochure (pdf)

Here's a link to the latest order guide that I can find.

A little light reading...

The ecoboost isn't a headache engine. Probably not as durable as the 6.2 though because of simplicity.

Complexity = Headaches... which is why I think most fellas go to the 6.2 in the first place. To be sure there are mountains of happy EB owners, similar to 6.7 PSD owners. However, I can also find mountains of unhappy EB and PSD owners too. Unhappy 6.2 owners? Yeah, not so much, except for the misinformed dude who gets 3.73s or thinks it should tow like a diesel. YMMV.

The 6.2 vs PSD is apples and oranges, the 6.2 everyone has more faith in just because of sheer amounts of differences in simplicity.

The 3.5 Eco, twin turbo gas motor with direct injection. Not that complicated really. Higher repair cost and more things to break but nothing like a diesel.

So if mpg is an issue and you aren't heavily working the truck or pulling a GN or 5th wheel my suggestion is to also look at the F150 eco.. gonna pull the same load better anyway and you get turbos to help if pulling at high elevations. Way cheaper than a diesel too, just don't expect to snowbird all your stuff in a 5th wheel across the country with an f150.
