I must admit it does look better. I've been wanting to build me a center console. Back when I covered the kick panels I purchased enough black leather to do a center console just never had time to start on it. That four letter word work keeps getting in the way.

I like the idea, looks like it will come in handy. I have used MDF for many, many projects and it paints up real nice.
The only thing that concerns me is that MDF shouldn't be used anywhere water might creep under an edge. The water will slowly soak in and the MDF will expand and puff out.
I have tried priming and painting the lower edges, even tried soaking the edges with wood glue and then primer and paint and it still failed.
The only thing that worked for me was to glue on a strip of solid wood along the lower edges to lift the MDF up away from any water.

I second this. My initial layout for my console had the console right at the gas pedal. When I built my console I curved it to the passenger side from between the seats going toward the dash. Since I will eventually be painting my console, I'm going to make a stainless scuff plate to go on the console at the gas pedal area.

I don't know if it's just a coincidence or better quality, but the seats in the Chrysler products seem to be in better condition in the salvage yards than GM, Ford or foreign products. And they are very comfortable!!

I haven't owned a Chrysler in awhile but the buckets in my 81 Cordoba were excellent, if I had known I was going to be getting involved in these projects I would have kept it for parts rather than giving it away..

ok all your console gurus.... what are you going to line the junk drawers with ?? felt ?? cordoroy ?? bedliner... I"ve got a basic box ... but it's deep. I'm thinking I might divide it up vertically... have a 'secret' compartment on bottom and the junk drawer on top.... might be a good place to hide a pistol... or phone or extra cash... specially if I can make it pretty hard to spot... give me some ideas.

I have a removable bag that fits perfectly to the inside and held in place with Velcro, the material is the same they use on Ski DOO/Sea DOO's seats. I have no worries of spilling coffee like the Axpert mentioned, my console will hold water..

Drewski2 for your console did you make it from wood and cover it in fibreglass and then painted it? Wondering how to build mine, mostly materials for now. Currently it is made in cardboard, probably won't last.

I really like the idea of a console look, but still want to keep the bench seat. Guess I can't have it all. Buckets look comfy tho!

You might take a look at this link. I had forgotten that I had posted the console build on FTE.
