Which V10?

Hey V10 Guys,

I've got a question for you. Which year V10 would you say would be the one to use for a street rod project?

I've got a 48 F1 and a 2002 Zero Miles v10, but I need many more parts to complete my job. I am thinking that buying a donor truck or van or..? with a V10 / auto 2wd would be the proper way to get everything I need for the swap.

I am wondering which years to stay away from (can get some good deals on the 97 / 98 club wagons with 40-60k) and if any of you know of possiable issues between using a 97 computer with a 02 block with the 97 stuff on it.

Of couse the donor vehicle will come with a motor too, so if the miles are low and in good shape I'd just use that then ebay the new 02.. if that ends up making sence.

Yes, the 02 v10 is sitting between the fenders on motor mounts at the moment. It does fit, very nicely. Just no trans, injectors, front dressings, no computer... and I am sure many other things!

And as another option, I've been thinking of just using a third party computer and programming it myself to run the motor with out all the sensors and dash and other stuff needed from the donor car... but the computer alone is $3000 and I'd need dyno time too.... and I'd loose out on the fancy 5cyl cool running modes and many other tricks the fancy computer has....

choices choices.....

Any experianced advice will be appreciated.

Make sure you buy a 2000 or newer. The 2000's on have more HP & TRQ. 3rd party ECU's area good choice with pre-smog vehicles. I run a Motec ECU in my off road buggy, a late model Subaru turbo with 15lbs. of boost.

Thank you, Motec is exactly what I was looking at... just wondering about how well I'll be able to get it to work!

I'll be honest with you, I bought mine already tuned on a dyno. I’ve had it for over a year and the motor has run hard, still runs like the day it was installed. Motec is a little pricey, also available Link ECU's. A buddy of mine has one in his off road buggy, works equally as well.

Other than E-Bay alot of the guys putting V-10's into projects seem to have bought their V-10 motors from Foster Auto Parts, in Portland Oregon. This guy here has alot of links and alot of info about what he did to his engine;
