I'm thinking about installing a bug deflector on my truck to help prevent rock chips on the front of my hood. I was wondering if anyone has installed one, and if so, what brand did you go with? Pics of it installed on your truck would also be appreciated.
The WeatherTech low profile one and the AVS Aero shield are pretty good looking bug guards IMO. Personally, I did a clear bra to prevent rock chips and scratches without changing the look of the truck.
To me, the bug guards are good if you just like that look or if you want to cover up chips (as I have on previous trucks) but what good is preventing chips in paint you'll never see? :-) That's why I went clear anyway.
Fwiw if you haven't had one before, they really do nothing for actual bug splatter prevention in my experience.
I have an AVS skin tight shield on my 2011 and while I like the look of the skin tight or low profile shield better, the double stick tape along the corners seems to pull when it gets cold out. Real aggravating.
The other reason I went this rout was so if I choose to remove it or if it breaks, I can pull off the tape, apply a little Goo Gone to clean the residue and I start from fresh again.
I am shopping for one also,I have always had a bug deflector on my trucks and the 2015 is def in need of one..Sadly I cant find one brand that has good reviews for our trucks
and I am at a standstill..Looking over several brands it seems the biggest complaint is the MFGs supply junk hardware that does not get the job done..Bug shields are normally pretty easy to install but it would seem the latest ford F150 is a little cumbersome for most DIYers also..
had one on a previous truck & it did virtually nothing for splatter. On the current model front end, didn't care for the look. Just keep a bug squeegee around and don't forget to use it on the nose when doing your windows.
They look nice,my concerns are
Dirt and debris collecting around the top by the glue strip
and if I ever want a new one it will have to be heat gun removed like a
emblem
Every bug deflector I ever had was bolted on and had enough of a gap
to still wash my hood

I have the same thing on my 2011 but mine smoke not chrome. My issues are the corners are lifting some, more in the colder months. No issue with dirt or debris building up. I also have an AVS aeroskin on my 2010 Focus, looks great but the same issues. Corners lifting.

I will have to keep an eye on the corners of mine this winter.
Could you put extra double sided tape on the corners to prevent the lifting?

I suppose you could but I think it would have been easier before the initial install. I didn't think of that when I put mine on. I've no issues what so ever other than the corners lifting a bit.
I was going to buy clear and back paint it also but went with the chrome Aeroskin instead. If I have problems with it in the future thats what I will do.
